Now concerning what comes from the Spirit: brothers, I do not want you to be unaware. | 1Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. |
You know that when you were pagans, you used to be led off to the idols that could not speak. | 2Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. |
Therefore I am informing you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus is cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. | 3Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. |
Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit. | 4Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. |
There are different ministries, but the same Lord. | 5And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. |
And there are different activities, but the same God activates each gift in each person. | 6And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. |
A demonstration of the Spirit is given to each person to produce what is beneficial: | 7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. |
to one is given a message of wisdom through the Spirit, to another, a message of knowledge by the same Spirit, | 8For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; |
to another, faith by the same Spirit, to another, gifts of healing by the one Spirit, | 9To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; |
to another, the performing of miracles, to another, prophecy, to another, distinguishing between spirits, to another, different kinds of languages, to another, interpretation of languages. | 10To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: |
But one and the same Spirit is active in all these, distributing to each person as He wills. | 11But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. |
For as the body is one and has many parts, and all the parts of that body, though many, are one body--so also is Christ. | 12For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. |
For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. | 13For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. |
So the body is not one part but many. | 14For the body is not one member, but many. |
If the foot should say, "Because I'm not a hand, I don't belong to the body," in spite of this it still belongs to the body. | 15If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? |
And if the ear should say, "Because I'm not an eye, I don't belong to the body," in spite of this it still belongs to the body. | 16And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? |
If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? | 17If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? |
But now God has placed each one of the parts in one body just as He wanted. | 18But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. |
And if they were all the same part, where would the body be? | 19And if they were all one member, where were the body? |
Now there are many parts, yet one body. | 20But now are they many members, yet but one body. |
So the eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" Or again, the head can't say to the feet, "I don't need you!" | 21And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. |
But even more, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are necessary. | 22Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: |
And those parts of the body that we think to be less honorable, we clothe these with greater honor, and our unpresentable parts have a better presentation. | 23And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. |
But our presentable parts have no need of clothing. Instead, God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the less honorable, | 24For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked: |
so that there would be no division in the body, but that the members would have the same concern for each other. | 25That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. |
So if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. | 26And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. |
Now you are the body of Christ, and individual members of it. | 27Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. |
And God has placed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, next miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, managing, various kinds of languages. | 28And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. |
Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all do miracles? | 29Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? |
Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in other languages? Do all interpret? | 30Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? |
But desire the greater gifts. And I will show you an even better way. | 31But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way. |
