English Standard Version | NET Bible |
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. | 1Therefore I exhort you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice--alive, holy, and pleasing to God--which is your reasonable service. |
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. | 2Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God--what is good and well-pleasing and perfect. |
For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. | 3For by the grace given to me I say to every one of you not to think more highly of yourself than you ought to think, but to think with sober discernment, as God has distributed to each of you a measure of faith. |
For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, | 4For just as in one body we have many members, and not all the members serve the same function, |
so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. | 5so we who are many are one body in Christ, and individually we are members who belong to one another. |
Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; | 6And we have different gifts according to the grace given to us. If the gift is prophecy, that individual must use it in proportion to his faith. |
if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; | 7If it is service, he must serve; if it is teaching, he must teach; |
the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. | 8if it is exhortation, he must exhort; if it is contributing, he must do so with sincerity; if it is leadership, he must do so with diligence; if it is showing mercy, he must do so with cheerfulness. |

Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. | 13Contribute to the needs of the saints, pursue hospitality. |
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. | 14Bless those who persecute you, bless and do not curse. |
Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. | 15Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. |
Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. | 16Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty but associate with the lowly. Do not be conceited. |
Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. | 17Do not repay anyone evil for evil; consider what is good before all people. |
If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. | 18If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all people. |
Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” | 19Do not avenge yourselves, dear friends, but give place to God's wrath, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay," says the Lord. |
To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” | 20Rather, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing this you will be heaping burning coals on his head. |
