I waited patiently for the LORD, and he turned to me and heard my cry for help. | 1For the director of music. Of David. A psalm. I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. |
He brought me up from a desolate pit, out of the muddy clay, and set my feet on a rock, making my steps secure. | 2He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. |
He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and they will trust in the LORD. | 3He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him. |
How happy is anyone who has put his trust in the LORD and has not turned to the proud or to those who run after lies! | 4Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. |
LORD my God, you have done many things--your wondrous works and your plans for us; none can compare with you. If I were to report and speak of them, they are more than can be told. | 5Many, LORD my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare. |
You do not delight in sacrifice and offering; you open my ears to listen. You do not ask for a whole burnt offering or a sin offering. | 6Sacrifice and offering you did not desire-- but my ears you have opened -- burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require. |
Then I said, "See, I have come; in the scroll it is written about me. | 7Then I said, "Here I am, I have come-- it is written about me in the scroll. |
I delight to do your will, my God, and your instruction is deep within me." | 8I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart." |
I proclaim righteousness in the great assembly; see, I do not keep my mouth closed--as you know, LORD. | 9I proclaim your saving acts in the great assembly; I do not seal my lips, LORD, as you know. |
I did not hide your righteousness in my heart; I spoke about your faithfulness and salvation; I did not conceal your constant love and truth from the great assembly. | 10I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and your saving help. I do not conceal your love and your faithfulness from the great assembly. |
LORD, you do not withhold your compassion from me. Your constant love and truth will always guard me. | 11Do not withhold your mercy from me, LORD; may your love and faithfulness always protect me. |
For troubles without number have surrounded me; my iniquities have overtaken me; I am unable to see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my courage leaves me. | 12For troubles without number surround me; my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails within me. |
LORD, be pleased to rescue me; hurry to help me, LORD. | 13Be pleased to save me, LORD; come quickly, LORD, to help me. |
Let those who intend to take my life be disgraced and confounded. Let those who wish me harm be turned back and humiliated. | 14May all who want to take my life be put to shame and confusion; may all who desire my ruin be turned back in disgrace. |
Let those who say to me, "Aha, aha!" be appalled because of their shame. | 15May those who say to me, "Aha! Aha!" be appalled at their own shame. |
Let all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; let those who love your salvation continually say, "The LORD is great!" | 16But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who long for your saving help always say, "The LORD is great!" |
I am oppressed and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my helper and my deliverer; my God, do not delay. | 17But as for me, I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer; you are my God, do not delay. |
