Children, obey your parents in the Lord, because this is right. | 1Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. |
Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise, | 2Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) |
so that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life in the land. | 3That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. |
Fathers, don't stir up anger in your children, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. | 4And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. |
Slaves, obey your human masters with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, as you would Christ. | 5Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; |
Don't work only while being watched, as people-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ, do God's will from your heart. | 6Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; |
Serve with a good attitude, as to the Lord and not to people, | 7With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: |
knowing that whatever good each one does, slave or free, he will receive this back from the Lord. | 8Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. |
And masters, treat your slaves the same way, without threatening them, because you know that both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him. | 9And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him. |
Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by his vast strength. | 10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. |
Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil. | 11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. |
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in the heavens. | 12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. |
For this reason take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand. | 13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. |
Stand, therefore, with truth like a belt around your waist, righteousness like armor on your chest, | 14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; |
and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace. | 15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; |
In every situation take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. | 16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. |
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit--which is the word of God. | 17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: |
Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints. | 18Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; |
Pray also for me, that the message may be given to me when I open my mouth to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel. | 19And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, |
For this I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I might be bold enough to speak about it as I should. | 20For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. |
Tychicus, our dearly loved brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will tell you all the news about me so that you may be informed. | 21But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things: |
I am sending him to you for this very reason, to let you know how we are and to encourage your hearts. | 22Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts. |
Peace to the brothers and sisters, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. | 23Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. |
Grace be with all who have undying love for our Lord Jesus Christ. | 24Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen. |
