God, do not keep silent. Do not be deaf, God; do not be quiet. | 1God, do not rest! Don't be silent! Don't stay inactive, God! |
See how your enemies make an uproar; those who hate you have acted arrogantly. | 2See! Your enemies rage; those who hate you issue threats. |
They devise clever schemes against your people; they conspire against your treasured ones. | 3They plot against your people and conspire against your cherished ones. |
They say, "Come, let us wipe them out as a nation so that Israel's name will no longer be remembered." | 4They say, "Let us go and erase them as a nation so the name of Israel will not be remembered anymore." |
For they have conspired with one mind; they form an alliance against you-- | 5Indeed, they shrewdly planned together, forming an alliance against you— |
the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites, | 6the tents of Edom, the Ishmaelites, Moab, the Hagrites, |
Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek, Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre. | 7Gebal, Ammon, Amalek, Philistia, and the inhabitants of Tyre. |
Even Assyria has joined them; they lend support to the sons of Lot. Selah | 8Even Assyria joined them to strengthen the descendants of Lot. Interlude |
Deal with them as you did with Midian, as you did with Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River. | 9Deal with them as you did to Midian, Sisera, and Jabin at the Kishon Brook. |
They were destroyed at En-dor; they became manure for the ground. | 10They were destroyed at En-dor and became as dung on the ground. |
Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their tribal leaders like Zebah and Zalmunna, | 11Punish their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, |
who said, "Let us seize God's pastures for ourselves." | 12who said, "Let us possess the pastures of God." |
Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like straw before the wind. | 13God, set them up like dried thistles, like straw before the wind. |
As fire burns a forest, as a flame blazes through mountains, | 14Like a fire burning a forest, and a flame setting mountains ablaze. |
so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm. | 15Pursue them with your storm and terrify them with your whirlwind. |
Cover their faces with shame so that they will seek your name, LORD. | 16Fill their faces with shame until they seek your name, God. |
Let them be put to shame and terrified forever; let them perish in disgrace. | 17Let them be humiliated and terrified permanently until they die in shame. |
May they know that you alone--whose name is the LORD--are the Most High over the whole earth. | 18Then they will know that you alone— whose name is LORD— are the Most High over all the earth. |
