Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same understanding--because the one who suffers in the flesh is finished with sin--1Therefore, since Christ suffered in His body, arm yourselves with the same resolve, because anyone who has suffered in his body is done with sin.
in order to live the remaining time in the flesh no longer for human desires, but for God's will.2Consequently, he does not live out his remaining time on earth for human passions, but for the will of God.
For there has already been enough time spent in doing what the Gentiles choose to do: carrying on in unrestrained behavior, evil desires, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and lawless idolatry.3For you have spent enough time in the past carrying out the same desires as the Gentiles: living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and detestable idolatry.
They are surprised that you don't join them in the same flood of wild living--and they slander you.4Because of this, they consider it strange of you not to plunge with them into the same flood of reckless indiscretion, and they heap abuse on you.
They will give an account to the one who stands ready to judge the living and the dead.5But they will have to give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
For this reason the gospel was also preached to those who are now dead, so that, although they might be judged in the flesh according to human standards, they might live in the spirit according to God's standards.6That is why the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged as men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
The end of all things is near; therefore, be alert and sober-minded for prayer.7The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear-minded and sober, so that you can pray.
Above all, maintain constant love for one another, since love covers a multitude of sins.8Above all, love one another deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
Be hospitable to one another without complaining.9Show hospitality to one another without complaining.
Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve others, as good stewards of the varied grace of God.10As good stewards of the manifold grace of God, each of you should use whatever gift he has received to serve one another.
If anyone speaks, let it be as one who speaks God's words; if anyone serves, let it be from the strength God provides, so that God may be glorified through Jesus Christ in everything. To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.11If anyone speaks, he should speak as one conveying the words of God. If anyone serves, he should serve with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.
Dear friends, don't be surprised when the fiery ordeal comes among you to test you as if something unusual were happening to you.12Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial that has come upon you, as though something strange were happening to you.
Instead, rejoice as you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may also rejoice with great joy when his glory is revealed.13But rejoice that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed at the revelation of His glory.
If you are ridiculed for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.14If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
Let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or a meddler.15Indeed, none of you should suffer as a murderer or thief or wrongdoer, or even as a meddler.
But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed but let him glorify God in having that name.16But if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but glorify God that you bear that name.
For the time has come for judgment to begin with God's household, and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God?17For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God?
And if a righteous person is saved with difficulty, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?18And, “If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”
So then, let those who suffer according to God's will entrust themselves to a faithful Creator while doing what is good.19So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should entrust their souls to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.
