When therefore Jesus knew that the Pharisees heard that Jesus makes and baptizes more disciples than John,
Although Jesus Himself was not baptizing, rather His disciples,
He left Judea and went away again unto Galilee.
And it was necessary for Him to pass through Samaria.
He comes then unto a city of Samaria called Sychar near the plot of ground that Jacob had given to his son Joseph.
Now Jacob’s well was there; Therefore Jesus, being wearied from the journey sat thus at (upon) the well. The hour was about the sixth. 7A woman comes from out of Samaria to draw water. Jesus says to her, Give Me to drink; 8For His disciples had gone away into the city so that they might buy food. 9Then the Samaritan woman says to Him, How do You, being a Jew, ask to drink from me, being a Samaritan woman? For Jews have no association (dealings) with Samaritans. 10Jesus answered and said to her, If you had known the gift of God and who it is saying to you, Give Me to drink, you would have asked Him and He would have given to you living water. 11The woman says to Him, Sir (word for Lord but here Kyrie not Kyrios), You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep; from where then have You the living water? 12Are You greater than our father Jacob who gave us the well and drank from out of it himself, and his sons and his livestock (cattle)? 13Jesus answered and said to her, Everyone drinking from out of this water will thirst again; 14However whoever might drink from out of the water that I will give him will never thirst unto the age. But rather the water that I will give to him will become in him a spring (fountain, well) of water springing up (leaping, bubbling, gushing) into life eternal. 15The woman says to Him, Sir, give me this water so that I might not thirst nor come here to draw. 16He says to her, Go, call your husband and come here. 17The woman answered and said to Him, I do not have a husband. Jesus says to her, You have spoken well (kalos, rightly, correctly), I do not have a husband; 18For you have had five husbands and now he whom you have is not your husband; this you have spoken truly. 19The woman says to Him, Sir, I behold (ascertain, perceive, gaze) that You are a prophet. 20Our fathers worshipped in this mountain and you [people] say that the place where it is necessary to worship is in Jerusalem. 21Jesus says to her, Woman, believe Me, that an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know; because salvation is from out of the Jews. 23But an hour is coming and now is when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for also the Father seeks such who worship Him. 24God is Spirit and those worshipping must worship Him in spirit and truth. 25The woman says to him, I know that Messiah is coming, who is called Christ; when He comes, He will clearly tell us all things (the whole). 26Jesus says to her, I am He who is speaking to you. 27And upon this came His disciples and marveled that He was speaking with a woman; yet no one said, What do You seek? Or Why do You speak with her? 28Then the woman left her waterpot and went away into the city and says to the men, 29Come, see a man who told me all things that I ever did; Can it be that this is the Christ? 30They went out of the city and came to Him. 31In the meantime the disciples were asking Him, saying, Rabbi, eat. 32However He said to them, I have food to eat that you do not know. 33The disciples therefore said to one another, Did anyone bring Him [anything] to eat? 34Jesus says to them, My food is that I should do the will of the One having sent Me, and should finish His work. 35Do you not say that it is yet four months and the harvest comes? Behold, I say to you, Lift up your eyes and see the fields because they are already white toward harvest. 36The one reaping receives a reward (wages) and gathers fruit unto life eternal, so that the one sowing and the one reaping might rejoice together. 37For in this the saying is true, That one is sowing and another reaping. 38I sent you to reap what you have not labored hard for; others have labored hard and you have entered into their labor. 39And many of the Samaritans of that city believed unto Him because of the word of the woman testifying, He told me all things that I ever did. 40When therefore the Samaritans came to Him, they asked Him to abide with them and He stayed there two days. 41And many more believed because of His word; 42And they said to the woman, We no longer believe because of your speech; for we ourselves have heard and we know that this is truly the Savior of the world, 43And after two days, He went out from there into Galilee; 44For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has not honor (value) in his own native place (place of one’s fathers, fatherland, latin-patria-country). 45When therefore He came into Galilee, the Galileans received Him, having seen how great all the things He had done in Jerusalem at the feast; for they themselves also had gone unto the feast. 46He came then again unto Cana of Galilee, where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son was sick in Capernaum. 47He having heard that Jesus had come from out of Judea into Galilee went to Him and asked that He would come down and heal (iasetai) his son; for he was about to die. 48Jesus then said to him, Unless you see signs and wonders, you will not believe. 49The royal official said to Him, Sir, come down before my child dies. 50Jesus says to him, Go, your son lives. The man believed the word that Jesus said to him and went away. 51And as he was already going down, his servants met him, saying, His son lives. 52He inquired then the hour from them in which he got better (recovered). They said then to him, Yesterday at the seventh hour, the fever (inflamed, possibly inflammation, latin-febris-fever) left him. 53The father then knew that it was in that hour in which Jesus said to him, Your son lives. And he himself and his whole household believed. 54Now this is again the second sign Jesus did having come from out of Judea into Galilee. |
