Surely then you will delight in the Almighty
This phrase suggests a deep, personal joy and satisfaction found in a relationship with God. The term "Almighty" refers to God's omnipotence, emphasizing His supreme power and authority. In the context of the Book of Job, this statement is part of Eliphaz's speech, where he encourages Job to return to God. The idea of delighting in God is echoed in Psalm 37:4, which speaks of finding joy in the Lord and receiving the desires of one's heart. This delight is not merely emotional but involves a commitment to trust and obedience, reflecting a heart aligned with God's will.

and lift up your face to God.
Lifting one's face to God symbolizes confidence, openness, and a restored relationship. In ancient Near Eastern culture, lifting one's face was a gesture of respect and submission, often associated with prayer and worship. This imagery suggests a posture of humility and reverence before God, contrasting with the shame or despair that might cause one to hide their face. Biblically, it resonates with the priestly blessing in Numbers 6:24-26, where God's face shining upon someone signifies favor and peace. This phrase implies a renewal of hope and trust in God's goodness and mercy, encouraging believers to approach Him with boldness and assurance.

Teaching Points
Delight in God
True joy and satisfaction come from a relationship with the Almighty. This delight is not dependent on circumstances but on the character and presence of God.

Repentance and Restoration
Eliphaz suggests that turning back to God and repenting leads to restoration and joy. While his understanding of Job's situation is flawed, the principle of repentance leading to spiritual renewal is biblically sound.

Lifting Up Your Face
This phrase signifies confidence and openness in one's relationship with God. It implies a restored relationship where one can approach God without shame or fear.

God's Sovereignty
Recognizing God's power and authority is crucial in understanding our place in the world and finding peace amidst trials.

Misguided Counsel
Eliphaz's advice, though well-intentioned, is based on a misunderstanding of Job's situation. This reminds us to seek God's wisdom and discernment when offering counsel to others.(26) Then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty.--Zophar had told him the same thing, that he should lift up his face without spot (Job 11:15).

Verse 26. - For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty. God shall no longer be a terror and alarm to thee, as he is at present (Job 7:17-20; Job 9:17, 34; Job 10:15-17; Job 13:21; Job 19:6-13, etc.), but a source of rejoicing and joy. Thou shalt have blessings at his hands instead of sufferings, rewards instead of punishments. Therefore shalt thou delight in him, and shalt lift up thy rites unto God; i.e. "shalt turn towards him, like the sunflower towards the sun, end bask in the light of his countenance."
