Name and Meaning:
Jehoshua, also known as Joshua, is a significant biblical figure whose name means "The LORD is salvation" or "Yahweh is salvation." This name reflects his role as a deliverer and leader of the Israelites, guiding them into the Promised Land. The name Jehoshua is a variant of Joshua, and both are derived from the Hebrew name "Yehoshua."

Biblical References:
Jehoshua is prominently featured in the Old Testament, particularly in the books of Exodus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, and Joshua. He first appears in Exodus 17:9, where Moses instructs him to lead the Israelites in battle against the Amalekites. His leadership and faithfulness are further highlighted in the following passages:

· Exodus 17:9 : "Moses said to Joshua, 'Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on the hilltop with the staff of God in my hand.'"
· Numbers 13:16 : "These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun, Joshua."
· Deuteronomy 31:7-8 : "Then Moses called for Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, 'Be strong and courageous, for you will go with this people into the land that the LORD swore to their fathers to give them, and you shall give it to them as an inheritance. The LORD Himself goes before you; He will be with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.'"

Role and Leadership:
Jehoshua is best known for succeeding Moses as the leader of the Israelites. After Moses' death, he was appointed by God to lead the people into Canaan, the land promised to their ancestors. His leadership is characterized by obedience to God's commands, military prowess, and spiritual dedication. The Book of Joshua details his conquests and the division of the land among the twelve tribes of Israel.

· Joshua 1:6-9 : "Be strong and courageous, for you shall give these people the inheritance of the land that I swore to their fathers I would give them. Above all, be strong and very courageous. Be careful to observe all the law that My servant Moses commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law must not depart from your mouth; you are to recite it day and night, so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in all you do. Have I not commanded you to be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."

Faith and Obedience:
Jehoshua's faith is exemplified in his unwavering trust in God's promises. He was one of the twelve spies sent to explore Canaan and, along with Caleb, gave a positive report, urging the Israelites to trust in God's power to deliver the land into their hands (Numbers 14:6-9). His obedience to God's instructions is evident throughout his leadership, particularly in the miraculous crossing of the Jordan River and the fall of Jericho.

· Joshua 3:7-8 : "Now the LORD said to Joshua, 'Today I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, so that they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses. Command the priests carrying the ark of the covenant: When you reach the edge of the waters, stand in the Jordan.'"
· Joshua 6:2-5 : "Then the LORD said to Joshua, 'Behold, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its mighty men of valor. March around the city with all the men of war, circling the city one time. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry seven rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, while the priests blow the horns. And when there is a long blast of the ram’s horn and you hear its sound, have all the people give a mighty shout. Then the wall of the city will collapse, and all the people will charge straight into the city.'"

Legacy:
Jehoshua's legacy is one of faithfulness, courage, and leadership. He is remembered as a type of Christ, prefiguring Jesus as the ultimate deliverer and savior. His life and actions serve as a model of obedience to God's will and reliance on His promises. The Book of Joshua concludes with his famous exhortation to the Israelites to serve the LORD faithfully:

· Joshua 24:15 : "But if it is unpleasing in your sight to serve the LORD, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."
