Parallel Chapters Freedom in Christ 1It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. | 1For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. | 1It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. | 1Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. | 1Christ has liberated us to be free. Stand firm then and don't submit again to a yoke of slavery. |
Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. | 2Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you. | 2Behold I, Paul, say to you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you. | 2Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. | 2Take note! I, Paul, tell you that if you get yourselves circumcised, Christ will not benefit you at all. |
Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. | 3I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law. | 3And I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is under obligation to keep the whole Law. | 3For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. | 3Again I testify to every man who gets himself circumcised that he is obligated to keep the entire law. |
You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. | 4You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. | 4You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. | 4Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. | 4You who are trying to be justified by the law are alienated from Christ; you have fallen from grace. |
For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope. | 5For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. | 5For we through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness. | 5For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. | 5For through the Spirit, by faith, we eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. |
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. | 6For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love. | 6For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love. | 6For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love. | 6For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision accomplishes anything; what matters is faith working through love. |
You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth? | 7You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? | 7You were running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth? | 7Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? | 7You were running well. Who prevented you from obeying the truth? |
That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. | 8This persuasion is not from him who calls you. | 8This persuasion did not come from Him who calls you. | 8This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you. | 8This persuasion did not come from the One who called you. |
"A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough." | 9A little leaven leavens the whole lump. | 9A little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough. | 9A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. | 9A little yeast leavens the whole lump of dough. |
I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion, whoever that may be, will have to pay the penalty. | 10I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view, and the one who is troubling you will bear the penalty, whoever he is. | 10I have confidence in you in the Lord that you will adopt no other view; but the one who is disturbing you will bear his judgment, whoever he is. | 10I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be. | 10I have confidence in the Lord you will not accept any other view. But whoever it is that is confusing you will pay the penalty. |
Brothers and sisters, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. | 11But if I, brothers, still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed. | 11But I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? Then the stumbling block of the cross has been abolished. | 11And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased. | 11Now brothers, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. |
As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves! | 12I wish those who unsettle you would emasculate themselves! | 12I wish that those who are troubling you would even mutilate themselves. | 12I would they were even cut off which trouble you. | 12I wish those who are disturbing you might also get themselves castrated! |
You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. | 13For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. | 13For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. | 13For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. | 13For you were called to be free, brothers; only don't use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love. |
For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." | 14For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” | 14For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, "YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF." | 14For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. | 14For the entire law is fulfilled in one statement: Love your neighbor as yourself. |
If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. | 15But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another. | 15But if you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another. | 15But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. | 15But if you bite and devour one another, watch out, or you will be consumed by one another. |
Living by the Spirit
(Romans 8:9-11) 16So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. | 16But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. | 16But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. | 16This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. | 16I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. |
For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. | 17For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. | 17For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. | 17For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. | 17For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don't do what you want. |
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. | 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. | 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. | 18But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. | 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. |

and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. | 21envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. | 21envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. | 21Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. | 21envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I tell you about these things in advance--as I told you before--that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. |

gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. | 23gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. | 23gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. | 23Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. | 23gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law. |
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. | 24And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. | 24Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. | 24And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. | 24Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. |
Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. | 25If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. | 25If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. | 25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. | 25Since we live by the Spirit, we must also follow the Spirit. |
Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. | 26Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. | 26Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another. | 26Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. | 26We must not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. |
