New Living Translation | New International Version |
I will praise you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done. | 1For the director of music. To the tune of "The Death of the Son." A psalm of David. I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. |
I will be filled with joy because of you. I will sing praises to your name, O Most High. | 2I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High. |
My enemies retreated; they staggered and died when you appeared. | 3My enemies turn back; they stumble and perish before you. |
For you have judged in my favor; from your throne you have judged with fairness. | 4For you have upheld my right and my cause, sitting enthroned as the righteous judge. |
You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked; you have erased their names forever. | 5You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked; you have blotted out their name for ever and ever. |
The enemy is finished, in endless ruins; the cities you uprooted are now forgotten. | 6Endless ruin has overtaken my enemies, you have uprooted their cities; even the memory of them has perished. |
But the LORD reigns forever, executing judgment from his throne. | 7The LORD reigns forever; he has established his throne for judgment. |
He will judge the world with justice and rule the nations with fairness. | 8He rules the world in righteousness and judges the peoples with equity. |
The LORD is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. | 9The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. |
Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O LORD, do not abandon those who search for you. | 10Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you. |
Sing praises to the LORD who reigns in Jerusalem. Tell the world about his unforgettable deeds. | 11Sing the praises of the LORD, enthroned in Zion; proclaim among the nations what he has done. |
For he who avenges murder cares for the helpless. He does not ignore the cries of those who suffer. | 12For he who avenges blood remembers; he does not ignore the cries of the afflicted. |
LORD, have mercy on me. See how my enemies torment me. Snatch me back from the jaws of death. | 13LORD, see how my enemies persecute me! Have mercy and lift me up from the gates of death, |
Save me so I can praise you publicly at Jerusalem’s gates, so I can rejoice that you have rescued me. | 14that I may declare your praises in the gates of Daughter Zion, and there rejoice in your salvation. |
The nations have fallen into the pit they dug for others. Their own feet have been caught in the trap they set. | 15The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug; their feet are caught in the net they have hidden. |
The LORD is known for his justice. The wicked are trapped by their own deeds. Quiet Interlude | 16The LORD is known by his acts of justice; the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands. |
The wicked will go down to the grave. This is the fate of all the nations who ignore God. | 17The wicked go down to the realm of the dead, all the nations that forget God. |
But the needy will not be ignored forever; the hopes of the poor will not always be crushed. | 18But God will never forget the needy; the hope of the afflicted will never perish. |
Arise, O LORD! Do not let mere mortals defy you! Judge the nations! | 19Arise, LORD, do not let mortals triumph; let the nations be judged in your presence. |
Make them tremble in fear, O LORD. Let the nations know they are merely human. Interlude | 20Strike them with terror, LORD; let the nations know they are only mortal. |
