| 1Then the LORD said to Job, | 1Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said, |
| 2“Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are God’s critic, but do you have the answers?” Job Responds to the LORD | 2Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it. |
| 3Then Job replied to the LORD, | 3Then Job answered the LORD, and said, |
| 4“I am nothing—how could I ever find the answers? I will cover my mouth with my hand. | 4Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth. |
| 5I have said too much already. I have nothing more to say.” The LORD Challenges Job Again | 5Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further. |
| 6Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind: | 6Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said, |
| 7“Brace yourself like a man, because I have some questions for you, and you must answer them. | 7Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. |
| 8“Will you discredit my justice and condemn me just to prove you are right? | 8Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous? |
| 9Are you as strong as God? Can you thunder with a voice like his? | 9Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him? |
| 10All right, put on your glory and splendor, your honor and majesty. | 10Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty. |
| 11Give vent to your anger. Let it overflow against the proud. | 11Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him. |
| 12Humiliate the proud with a glance; walk on the wicked where they stand. | 12Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place. |
| 13Bury them in the dust. Imprison them in the world of the dead. | 13Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret. |
| 14Then even I would praise you, for your own strength would save you. | 14Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee. |
| 15“Take a look at Behemoth, which I made, just as I made you. It eats grass like an ox. | 15Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. |
| 16See its powerful loins and the muscles of its belly. | 16Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. |
| 17Its tail is as strong as a cedar. The sinews of its thighs are knit tightly together. | 17He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. |
| 18Its bones are tubes of bronze. Its limbs are bars of iron. | 18His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. |
| 19It is a prime example of God’s handiwork, and only its Creator can threaten it. | 19He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him. |
| 20The mountains offer it their best food, where all the wild animals play. | 20Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play. |
| 21It lies under the lotus plants, hidden by the reeds in the marsh. | 21He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens. |
| 22The lotus plants give it shade among the willows beside the stream. | 22The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about. |
| 23It is not disturbed by the raging river, not concerned when the swelling Jordan rushes around it. | 23Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth. |
| 24No one can catch it off guard or put a ring in its nose and lead it away. | 24He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares. |
