Proverbs 11
NLT Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationInternational Standard Version
The LORD detests the use of dishonest scales, but he delights in accurate weights.1The LORD hates false scales, but he delights in accurate weights.
Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.2When pride appears, disgrace accompanies it, but humility is present with wisdom.
Honesty guides good people; dishonesty destroys treacherous people.3The integrity of the righteous guides them, but the hypocrisy of the treacherous destroys them.
Riches won’t help on the day of judgment, but right living can save you from death.4Wealth won't help in the time of judgment, but righteousness will deliver from death.
The godly are directed by honesty; the wicked fall beneath their load of sin.5The righteousness of the innocent creates a level path, but the wicked fall by their wickedness.
The godliness of good people rescues them; the ambition of treacherous people traps them.6The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the treacherous are trapped by their evil desires.
When the wicked die, their hopes die with them, for they rely on their own feeble strength.7When a wicked person dies, his hope vanishes; and what he expected from his scheming comes to nothing.
The godly are rescued from trouble, and it falls on the wicked instead.8The righteous person is delivered from trouble; it comes upon the wicked instead.
With their words, the godless destroy their friends, but knowledge will rescue the righteous.9By what he says, the godless person can destroy his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous escape.
The whole city celebrates when the godly succeed; they shout for joy when the wicked die.10The city rejoices when the righteous prosper, and when the wicked perish there is jubilation.
Upright citizens are good for a city and make it prosper, but the talk of the wicked tears it apart.11Through the blessing of the righteous a city is built up, but what the wicked say tears it down.
It is foolish to belittle one’s neighbor; a sensible person keeps quiet.12Whoever belittles his neighbor lacks sense, but the discerning man controls his comments.
A gossip goes around telling secrets, but those who are trustworthy can keep a confidence.13Whoever spreads gossip betrays secrets, but the trustworthy person keeps a confidence.
Without wise leadership, a nation falls; there is safety in having many advisers.14A nation falls through a lack of guidance, but victory comes through the counsel of many.
There’s danger in putting up security for a stranger’s debt; it’s safer not to guarantee another person’s debt.15Securing a loan for a stranger will bring suffering, but by refusing to do so, one remains safe.
A gracious woman gains respect, but ruthless men gain only wealth.16A gracious woman attains honor, but ruthless men attain wealth.
Your kindness will reward you, but your cruelty will destroy you.17A gracious man benefits himself, but the cruel person damages himself.
Evil people get rich for the moment, but the reward of the godly will last.18Evil people earn deceptive wages, but those who plant righteousness are truly rewarded.
Godly people find life; evil people find death.19Genuine righteousness leads to life, but whoever pursues evil will die.
The LORD detests people with crooked hearts, but he delights in those with integrity.20Devious minds are abhorrent to the LORD, but those whose ways are innocent are his delight.
Evil people will surely be punished, but the children of the godly will go free.21Be sure of this: the wicked will not go unpunished, but the descendants of the righteous will go free.
A beautiful woman who lacks discretion is like a gold ring in a pig’s snout.22Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman without discretion.
The godly can look forward to a reward, while the wicked can expect only judgment.23The desire of the righteous is to seek good, but the hope of the wicked results in wrath.
Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything.24Those who give freely gain even more; others hold back what they owe, becoming even poorer.
The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.25A generous person will prosper, and anyone who gives water will receive a flood in return.
People curse those who hoard their grain, but they bless the one who sells in time of need.26People will curse whoever withholds grain, but blessing will come to whoever is selling.
If you search for good, you will find favor; but if you search for evil, it will find you!27The person seeking good will find favor, but anyone who searches for evil—it will find him!
Trust in your money and down you go! But the godly flourish like leaves in spring.28The person who trusts in his wealth will fall, but the righteous will flourish like green leaves.
Those who bring trouble on their families inherit the wind. The fool will be a servant to the wise.29Whoever troubles his household will inherit the wind, and the fool will be a servant to the wise.
The seeds of good deeds become a tree of life; a wise person wins friends.30The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who wins people is wise.
If the righteous are rewarded here on earth, what will happen to wicked sinners?31If the righteous receive what they are due here on earth, how much more will the wicked and the sinner.
