1They brought the Ark of God and placed it inside the special tent David had prepared for it. And they presented burnt offerings and peace offerings to God. | 1They brought the ark of God and placed it inside the tent David had pitched for it. Then they offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings in God's presence. |
2When he had finished his sacrifices, David blessed the people in the name of the LORD. | 2When David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh. |
3Then he gave to every man and woman in all Israel a loaf of bread, a cake of dates, and a cake of raisins. | 3Then he distributed to each and every Israelite, both men and women, a loaf of bread, a date cake, and a raisin cake. |
4David appointed the following Levites to lead the people in worship before the Ark of the LORD—to invoke his blessings, to give thanks, and to praise the LORD, the God of Israel. | 4David appointed some of the Levites to be ministers before the ark of the LORD, to celebrate the LORD God of Israel, and to give thanks and praise to Him. |
5Asaph, the leader of this group, sounded the cymbals. Second to him was Zechariah, followed by Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel. They played the harps and lyres. | 5Asaph was the chief and Zechariah was second to him. Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel played the harps and lyres, while Asaph sounded the cymbals |
6The priests, Benaiah and Jahaziel, played the trumpets regularly before the Ark of God’s Covenant. David’s Song of Praise | 6and the priests Benaiah and Jahaziel blew the trumpets regularly before the ark of the covenant of God. |
7On that day David gave to Asaph and his fellow Levites this song of thanksgiving to the LORD: | 7On that day David decreed for the first time that thanks be given to the LORD by Asaph and his relatives: |
8Give thanks to the LORD and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. | 8Give thanks to Yahweh; call on His name; proclaim His deeds among the peoples. |
9Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds. | 9Sing to Him; sing praise to Him; tell about all His wonderful works! |
10Exult in his holy name; rejoice, you who worship the LORD. | 10Honor His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek Yahweh rejoice. |
11Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him. | 11Search for the LORD and for His strength; seek His face always. |
12Remember the wonders he has performed, his miracles, and the rulings he has given, | 12Remember the wonderful works He has done, His wonders, and the judgments He has pronounced, |
13you children of his servant Israel, you descendants of Jacob, his chosen ones. | 13you offspring of Israel His servant, Jacob's descendants--His chosen ones. |
14He is the LORD our God. His justice is seen throughout the land. | 14He is the LORD our God; His judgments govern the whole earth. |
15Remember his covenant forever— the commitment he made to a thousand generations. | 15Remember His covenant forever-- the promise He ordained for a thousand generations, |
16This is the covenant he made with Abraham and the oath he swore to Isaac. | 16the covenant He made with Abraham, swore to Isaac, |
17He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, and to the people of Israel as a never-ending covenant: | 17and confirmed to Jacob as a decree, and to Israel as an everlasting covenant:" |
18“I will give you the land of Canaan as your special possession.” | 18I will give the land of Canaan to you as your inherited portion." |
19He said this when you were few in number, a tiny group of strangers in Canaan. | 19When they were few in number, very few indeed, and temporary residents in Canaan |
20They wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another. | 20wandering from nation to nation and from one kingdom to another, |
21Yet he did not let anyone oppress them. He warned kings on their behalf: | 21He allowed no one to oppress them; He rebuked kings on their behalf:" |
22“Do not touch my chosen people, and do not hurt my prophets.” | 22Do not touch My anointed ones or harm My prophets." |
23Let the whole earth sing to the LORD! Each day proclaim the good news that he saves. | 23Sing to the LORD, all the earth. Proclaim His salvation from day to day. |
24Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does. | 24Declare His glory among the nations, His wonderful works among all peoples. |
25Great is the LORD! He is most worthy of praise! He is to be feared above all gods. | 25For the LORD is great and highly praised; He is feared above all gods. |
26The gods of other nations are mere idols, but the LORD made the heavens! | 26For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the LORD made the heavens. |
27Honor and majesty surround him; strength and joy fill his dwelling. | 27Splendor and majesty are before Him; strength and joy are in His place. |
28O nations of the world, recognize the LORD, recognize that the LORD is glorious and strong. | 28Ascribe to the LORD, families of the peoples, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. |
29Give to the LORD the glory he deserves! Bring your offering and come into his presence. Worship the LORD in all his holy splendor. | 29Ascribe to Yahweh the glory of His name; bring an offering and come before Him. Worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness; |
30Let all the earth tremble before him. The world stands firm and cannot be shaken. | 30tremble before Him, all the earth. The world is firmly established; it cannot be shaken. |
31Let the heavens be glad, and the earth rejoice! Tell all the nations, “The LORD reigns!” | 31Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice, and let them say among the nations, "The LORD is King!" |
32Let the sea and everything in it shout his praise! Let the fields and their crops burst out with joy! | 32Let the sea and everything in it resound; let the fields and all that is in them exult. |
33Let the trees of the forest sing for joy before the LORD, for he is coming to judge the earth. | 33Then the trees of the forest will shout for joy before the LORD, for He is coming to judge the earth. |
34Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. | 34Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His faithful love endures forever. |
35Cry out, “Save us, O God of our salvation! Gather and rescue us from among the nations, so we can thank your holy name and rejoice and praise you.” | 35And say: "Save us, God of our salvation; gather us and rescue us from the nations so that we may give thanks to Your holy name and rejoice in Your praise. |
36Praise the LORD, the God of Israel, who lives from everlasting to everlasting! And all the people shouted “Amen!” and praised the LORD. Worship at Jerusalem and Gibeon | 36May Yahweh, the God of Israel, be praised from everlasting to everlasting." Then all the people said, "Amen" and "Praise the LORD." |
37David arranged for Asaph and his fellow Levites to serve regularly before the Ark of the LORD’s Covenant, doing whatever needed to be done each day. | 37So David left Asaph and his relatives there before the ark of the LORD's covenant to minister regularly before the ark according to the daily requirements. |
38This group included Obed-edom (son of Jeduthun), Hosah, and sixty-eight other Levites as gatekeepers. | 38He assigned Obed-edom and his 68 relatives. Obed-edom son of Jeduthun and Hosah were to be gatekeepers. |
39Meanwhile, David stationed Zadok the priest and his fellow priests at the Tabernacle of the LORD at the place of worship in Gibeon, where they continued to minister before the LORD. | 39David left Zadok the priest and his fellow priests before the tabernacle of the LORD at the high place in Gibeon |
40They sacrificed the regular burnt offerings to the LORD each morning and evening on the altar set aside for that purpose, obeying everything written in the Law of the LORD, as he had commanded Israel. | 40to offer burnt offerings regularly, morning and evening, to the LORD on the altar of burnt offerings and to do everything that was written in the law of the LORD, which He had commanded Israel to keep. |
41David also appointed Heman, Jeduthun, and the others chosen by name to give thanks to the LORD, for “his faithful love endures forever.” | 41With them were Heman, Jeduthun, and the rest who were chosen and designated by name to give thanks to the LORD--for His faithful love endures forever. |
42They used their trumpets, cymbals, and other instruments to accompany their songs of praise to God. And the sons of Jeduthun were appointed as gatekeepers. | 42Heman and Jeduthun had with them trumpets and cymbals to play and musical instruments of God. Jeduthun's sons were at the gate. |
43Then all the people returned to their homes, and David turned and went home to bless his own family. | 43Then all the people left for their homes, and David returned home to bless his household. |
