New King James Version | New International Version |
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. | 1Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God--this is your true and proper worship. |
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. | 2Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. |
For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. | 3For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. |
For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, | 4For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, |
so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. | 5so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. |
Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; | 6We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; |
or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; | 7if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; |
he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. | 8if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. |
Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. | 9Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. |
Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; | 10Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. |
not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; | 11Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. |
rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; | 12Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. |
distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality. | 13Share with the Lord's people who are in need. Practice hospitality. |
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. | 14Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. |
Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. | 15Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. |
Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion. | 16Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. |
Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. | 17Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. |
If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. | 18If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. |
Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. | 19Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. |
Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” | 20On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head." |
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. | 21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. |
