New King James Version | English Standard Version |
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. | 1I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. |
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. | 2Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. |
For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. | 3For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. |
For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, | 4For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, |
so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. | 5so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. |
Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; | 6Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; |
or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; | 7if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; |
he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. | 8the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. |
Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. | 9Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. |
Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; | 10Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. |
not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; | 11Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. |
rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; | 12Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. |
distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality. | 13Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. |
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. | 14Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. |
Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. | 15Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. |
Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion. | 16Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. |
Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. | 17Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. |
If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. | 18If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. |
Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. | 19Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” |
Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” | 20To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” |
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. | 21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. |
