New King James Version | New International Version |
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: | 1Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. |
You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. | 2You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. |
Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. | 3Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. |
There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. | 4There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. |
There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. | 5There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. |
And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. | 6There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. |
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: | 7Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. |
for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, | 8To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, |
to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, | 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, |
to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. | 10to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. |
But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. | 11All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines. |
For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. | 12Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. |
For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. | 13For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body--whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free--and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. |
For in fact the body is not one member but many. | 14Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. |
If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? | 15Now if the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. |
And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? | 16And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. |
If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? | 17If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? |
But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. | 18But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. |
And if they were all one member, where would the body be? | 19If they were all one part, where would the body be? |
But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. | 20As it is, there are many parts, but one body. |
And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” | 21The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the head cannot say to the feet, "I don't need you!" |
No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. | 22On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, |
And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, | 23and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, |
but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, | 24while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, |
that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. | 25so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. |
And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. | 26If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. |
Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. | 27Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. |
And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. | 28And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues. |
Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? | 29Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? |
Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? | 30Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? |
But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way. | 31Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way. |
