Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: | 1From Paul and Silvanus and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. |
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. | 2Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ! |
We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other, | 3We ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith flourishes more and more and the love of each one of you all for one another is ever greater. |
so that we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure, | 4As a result we ourselves boast about you in the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and afflictions you are enduring. |
which is manifest evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you also suffer; | 5This is evidence of God's righteous judgment, to make you worthy of the kingdom of God, for which in fact you are suffering. |
since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you, | 6For it is right for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, |
and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, | 7and to you who are being afflicted to give rest together with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels. |
in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. | 8With flaming fire he will mete out punishment on those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. |
These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, | 9They will undergo the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his strength, |
when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed. | 10when he comes to be glorified among his saints and admired on that day among all who have believed--and you did in fact believe our testimony. |
Therefore we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power, | 11And in this regard we pray for you always, that our God will make you worthy of his calling and fulfill by his power your every desire for goodness and every work of faith, |
that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. | 12that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. |
