To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. On an eight-stringed harp. A Psalm of David. O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger, Nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure. | 1For the choir director; with stringed instruments, upon an eight-string lyre. A Psalm of David. O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger, Nor chasten me in Your wrath. |
Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am weak; O LORD, heal me, for my bones are troubled. | 2Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am pining away; Heal me, O LORD, for my bones are dismayed. |
My soul also is greatly troubled; But You, O LORD—how long? | 3And my soul is greatly dismayed; But You, O LORD-- how long? |
Return, O LORD, deliver me! Oh, save me for Your mercies’ sake! | 4Return, O LORD, rescue my soul; Save me because of Your lovingkindness. |
For in death there is no remembrance of You; In the grave who will give You thanks? | 5For there is no mention of You in death; In Sheol who will give You thanks? |
I am weary with my groaning; All night I make my bed swim; I drench my couch with my tears. | 6I am weary with my sighing; Every night I make my bed swim, I dissolve my couch with my tears. |
My eye wastes away because of grief; It grows old because of all my enemies. | 7My eye has wasted away with grief; It has become old because of all my adversaries. |
Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity; For the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping. | 8Depart from me, all you who do iniquity, For the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping. |
The LORD has heard my supplication; The LORD will receive my prayer. | 9The LORD has heard my supplication, The LORD receives my prayer. |
Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled; Let them turn back and be ashamed suddenly. | 10All my enemies will be ashamed and greatly dismayed; They shall turn back, they will suddenly be ashamed. |
