In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: “We have a strong city; God will appoint salvation for walls and bulwarks. | 1In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: "We have a strong city; He sets up walls and ramparts for security. |
Open the gates, That the righteous nation which keeps the truth may enter in. | 2"Open the gates, that the righteous nation may enter, The one that remains faithful. |
You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. | 3"The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, Because he trusts in You. |
Trust in the LORD forever, For in YAH, the LORD, is everlasting strength. | 4"Trust in the LORD forever, For in GOD the LORD, we have an everlasting Rock. |
For He brings down those who dwell on high, The lofty city; He lays it low, He lays it low to the ground, He brings it down to the dust. | 5"For He has brought low those who dwell on high, the unassailable city; He lays it low, He lays it low to the ground, He casts it to the dust. |
The foot shall tread it down— The feet of the poor And the steps of the needy.” | 6"The foot will trample it, The feet of the afflicted, the steps of the helpless." |
The way of the just is uprightness; O Most Upright, You weigh the path of the just. | 7The way of the righteous is smooth; O Upright One, make the path of the righteous level. |
Yes, in the way of Your judgments, O LORD, we have waited for You; The desire of our soul is for Your name And for the remembrance of You. | 8Indeed, while following the way of Your judgments, O LORD, We have waited for You eagerly; Your name, even Your memory, is the desire of our souls. |
With my soul I have desired You in the night, Yes, by my spirit within me I will seek You early; For when Your judgments are in the earth, The inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness. | 9At night my soul longs for You, Indeed, my spirit within me seeks You diligently; For when the earth experiences Your judgments The inhabitants of the world learn righteousness. |
Let grace be shown to the wicked, Yet he will not learn righteousness; In the land of uprightness he will deal unjustly, And will not behold the majesty of the LORD. | 10Though the wicked is shown favor, He does not learn righteousness; He deals unjustly in the land of uprightness, And does not perceive the majesty of the LORD. |
LORD, when Your hand is lifted up, they will not see. But they will see and be ashamed For their envy of people; Yes, the fire of Your enemies shall devour them. | 11O LORD, Your hand is lifted up yet they do not see it. They see Your zeal for the people and are put to shame; Indeed, fire will devour Your enemies. |
LORD, You will establish peace for us, For You have also done all our works in us. | 12LORD, You will establish peace for us, Since You have also performed for us all our works. |
O LORD our God, masters besides You Have had dominion over us; But by You only we make mention of Your name. | 13O LORD our God, other masters besides You have ruled us; But through You alone we confess Your name. |
They are dead, they will not live; They are deceased, they will not rise. Therefore You have punished and destroyed them, And made all their memory to perish. | 14The dead will not live, the departed spirits will not rise; Therefore You have punished and destroyed them, And You have wiped out all remembrance of them. |
You have increased the nation, O LORD, You have increased the nation; You are glorified; You have expanded all the borders of the land. | 15You have increased the nation, O LORD, You have increased the nation, You are glorified; You have extended all the borders of the land. |
LORD, in trouble they have visited You, They poured out a prayer when Your chastening was upon them. | 16O LORD, they sought You in distress; They could only whisper a prayer, Your chastening was upon them. |
As a woman with child Is in pain and cries out in her pangs, When she draws near the time of her delivery, So have we been in Your sight, O LORD. | 17As the pregnant woman approaches the time to give birth, She writhes and cries out in her labor pains, Thus were we before You, O LORD. |
We have been with child, we have been in pain; We have, as it were, brought forth wind; We have not accomplished any deliverance in the earth, Nor have the inhabitants of the world fallen. | 18We were pregnant, we writhed in labor, We gave birth, as it seems, only to wind. We could not accomplish deliverance for the earth, Nor were inhabitants of the world born. |
Your dead shall live; Together with my dead body they shall arise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in dust; For your dew is like the dew of herbs, And the earth shall cast out the dead. | 19Your dead will live; Their corpses will rise. You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy, For your dew is as the dew of the dawn, And the earth will give birth to the departed spirits. |
Come, my people, enter your chambers, And shut your doors behind you; Hide yourself, as it were, for a little moment, Until the indignation is past. | 20Come, my people, enter into your rooms And close your doors behind you; Hide for a little while Until indignation runs its course. |
For behold, the LORD comes out of His place To punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity; The earth will also disclose her blood, And will no more cover her slain. | 21For behold, the LORD is about to come out from His place To punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity; And the earth will reveal her bloodshed And will no longer cover her slain. |
