After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting: "Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, | 1After these things I heard what sounded like the loud voice of a vast throng in heaven, saying, "Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, |
for true and just are his judgments. He has condemned the great prostitute who corrupted the earth by her adulteries. He has avenged on her the blood of his servants." | 2because his judgments are true and just. For he has judged the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her sexual immorality, and has avenged the blood of his servants poured out by her own hands!" |
And again they shouted: "Hallelujah! The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever." | 3Then a second time the crowd shouted, "Hallelujah!" The smoke rises from her forever and ever. |
The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried: "Amen, Hallelujah!" | 4The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures threw themselves to the ground and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne, saying: "Amen! Hallelujah!" |
Then a voice came from the throne, saying: "Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, both great and small!" | 5Then a voice came from the throne, saying: "Praise our God all you his servants, and all you who fear Him, both the small and the great!" |
Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: "Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. | 6Then I heard what sounded like the voice of a vast throng, like the roar of many waters and like loud crashes of thunder. They were shouting: "Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the All-Powerful, reigns! |
Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. | 7Let us rejoice and exult and give him glory, because the wedding celebration of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. |
Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear." (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God's holy people.) | 8She was permitted to be dressed in bright, clean, fine linen" (for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints). |
Then the angel said to me, "Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!" And he added, "These are the true words of God." | 9Then the angel said to me, "Write the following: Blessed are those who are invited to the banquet at the wedding celebration of the Lamb!" He also said to me, "These are the true words of God." |
At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, "Don't do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus." | 10So I threw myself down at his feet to worship him, but he said, "Do not do this! I am only a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony about Jesus. Worship God, for the testimony about Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." |
I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. | 11Then I saw heaven opened and here came a white horse! The one riding it was called "Faithful" and "True," and with justice he judges and goes to war. |
His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. | 12His eyes are like a fiery flame and there are many diadem crowns on his head. He has a name written that no one knows except himself. |
He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. | 13He is dressed in clothing dipped in blood, and he is called the Word of God. |
The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. | 14The armies that are in heaven, dressed in white, clean, fine linen, were following him on white horses. |
Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. "He will rule them with an iron scepter." He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. | 15From his mouth extends a sharp sword, so that with it he can strike the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod, and he stomps the winepress of the furious wrath of God, the All-Powerful. |
On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: king of kings and lord of lords. | 16He has a name written on his clothing and on his thigh: "King of kings and Lord of lords." |
And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair, "Come, gather together for the great supper of God, | 17Then I saw one angel standing in the sun, and he shouted in a loud voice to all the birds flying high in the sky: "Come, gather around for the great banquet of God, |
so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, great and small." | 18to eat your fill of the flesh of kings, the flesh of generals, the flesh of powerful people, the flesh of horses and those who ride them, and the flesh of all people, both free and slave, and small and great!" |
Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse and his army. | 19Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies assembled to do battle with the one who rode the horse and with his army. |
But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. | 20Now the beast was seized, and along with him the false prophet who had performed the signs on his behalf--signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. Both of them were thrown alive into the lake of fire burning with sulfur. |
The rest were killed with the sword coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh. | 21The others were killed by the sword that extended from the mouth of the one who rode the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves with their flesh. |
