A psalm--a song used at the dedication of the temple; by David. I will praise you, O LORD, for you lifted me up, and did not allow my enemies to gloat over me. | 1A psalm. A song. For the dedication of the temple. Of David. I will exalt you, LORD, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me. |
O LORD my God, I cried out to you and you healed me. | 2LORD my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me. |
O LORD, you pulled me up from Sheol; you rescued me from among those descending into the grave. | 3You, LORD, brought me up from the realm of the dead; you spared me from going down to the pit. |
Sing to the LORD, you faithful followers of his; give thanks to his holy name. | 4Sing the praises of the LORD, you his faithful people; praise his holy name. |
For his anger lasts only a brief moment, and his good favor restores one's life. One may experience sorrow during the night, but joy arrives in the morning. | 5For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning. |
In my self-confidence I said, "I will never be upended." | 6When I felt secure, I said, "I will never be shaken." |
O LORD, in your good favor you made me secure. Then you rejected me and I was terrified. | 7LORD, when you favored me, you made my royal mountain stand firm; but when you hid your face, I was dismayed. |
To you, O LORD, I cried out; I begged the Lord for mercy: | 8To you, LORD, I called; to the Lord I cried for mercy: |
"What profit is there in taking my life, in my descending into the Pit? Can the dust of the grave praise you? Can it declare your loyalty? | 9"What is gained if I am silenced, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it proclaim your faithfulness? |
Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me! O LORD, deliver me!" | 10Hear, LORD, and be merciful to me; LORD, be my help." |
Then you turned my lament into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and covered me with joy. | 11You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, |
So now my heart will sing to you and not be silent; O LORD my God, I will always give thanks to you. | 12that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. LORD my God, I will praise you forever. |
