A psalm--a song used at the dedication of the temple; by David. I will praise you, O LORD, for you lifted me up, and did not allow my enemies to gloat over me. | 1A psalm; a dedication song for the house. Davidic. I will exalt You, LORD, because You have lifted me up and have not allowed my enemies to triumph over me. |
O LORD my God, I cried out to you and you healed me. | 2 LORD my God, I cried to You for help, and You healed me. |
O LORD, you pulled me up from Sheol; you rescued me from among those descending into the grave. | 3 LORD, You brought me up from Sheol; You spared me from among those going down to the Pit. |
Sing to the LORD, you faithful followers of his; give thanks to his holy name. | 4Sing to Yahweh, you His faithful ones, and praise His holy name. |
For his anger lasts only a brief moment, and his good favor restores one's life. One may experience sorrow during the night, but joy arrives in the morning. | 5For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favor, a lifetime. Weeping may spend the night, but there is joy in the morning. |
In my self-confidence I said, "I will never be upended." | 6When I was secure, I said," I will never be shaken." |
O LORD, in your good favor you made me secure. Then you rejected me and I was terrified. | 7 LORD, when You showed Your favor, You made me stand like a strong mountain; when You hid Your face, I was terrified. |
To you, O LORD, I cried out; I begged the Lord for mercy: | 8 LORD, I called to You; I sought favor from my Lord:" |
"What profit is there in taking my life, in my descending into the Pit? Can the dust of the grave praise you? Can it declare your loyalty? | 9What gain is there in my death, if I go down to the Pit? Will the dust praise You? Will it proclaim Your truth? |
Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me! O LORD, deliver me!" | 10 LORD, listen and be gracious to me; LORD, be my helper." |
Then you turned my lament into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and covered me with joy. | 11You turned my lament into dancing; You removed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, |
So now my heart will sing to you and not be silent; O LORD my God, I will always give thanks to you. | 12so that I can sing to You and not be silent. LORD my God, I will praise You forever. |
