A psalm--a song used at the dedication of the temple; by David. I will praise you, O LORD, for you lifted me up, and did not allow my enemies to gloat over me. | 1A Psalm and Song at the dedication of the house of David. I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me. |
O LORD my God, I cried out to you and you healed me. | 2O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me. |
O LORD, you pulled me up from Sheol; you rescued me from among those descending into the grave. | 3O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. |
Sing to the LORD, you faithful followers of his; give thanks to his holy name. | 4Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. |
For his anger lasts only a brief moment, and his good favor restores one's life. One may experience sorrow during the night, but joy arrives in the morning. | 5For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. |
In my self-confidence I said, "I will never be upended." | 6And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved. |
O LORD, in your good favor you made me secure. Then you rejected me and I was terrified. | 7LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled. |
To you, O LORD, I cried out; I begged the Lord for mercy: | 8I cried to thee, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication. |
"What profit is there in taking my life, in my descending into the Pit? Can the dust of the grave praise you? Can it declare your loyalty? | 9What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth? |
Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me! O LORD, deliver me!" | 10Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper. |
Then you turned my lament into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and covered me with joy. | 11Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; |
So now my heart will sing to you and not be silent; O LORD my God, I will always give thanks to you. | 12To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever. |
