1Written by David, when he pretended to be insane before Abimelech, causing the king to send him away. I will praise the LORD at all times; my mouth will continually praise him. | 1A Psalm of David when he feigned madness before Abimelech, who drove him away and he departed. I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. |
2I will boast in the LORD; let the oppressed hear and rejoice! | 2My soul will make its boast in the LORD; The humble will hear it and rejoice. |
3Magnify the LORD with me! Let's praise his name together! | 3O magnify the LORD with me, And let us exalt His name together. |
4I sought the LORD's help and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. | 4I sought the LORD, and He answered me, And delivered me from all my fears. |
5Those who look to him for help are happy; their faces are not ashamed. | 5They looked to Him and were radiant, And their faces will never be ashamed. |
6This oppressed man cried out and the LORD heard; he saved him from all his troubles. | 6This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him And saved him out of all his troubles. |
7The LORD's angel camps around the LORD's loyal followers and delivers them. | 7The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, And rescues them. |
8Taste and see that the LORD is good! How blessed is the one who takes shelter in him! | 8O taste and see that the LORD is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him! |
9Remain loyal to the LORD, you chosen people of his, for his loyal followers lack nothing! | 9O fear the LORD, you His saints; For to those who fear Him there is no want. |
10Even young lions sometimes lack food and are hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing. | 10The young lions do lack and suffer hunger; But they who seek the LORD shall not be in want of any good thing. |
11Come children! Listen to me! I will teach you what it means to fear the LORD. | 11Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. |
12Do you want to really live? Would you love to live a long, happy life? | 12Who is the man who desires life And loves length of days that he may see good? |
13Then make sure you don't speak evil words or use deceptive speech! | 13Keep your tongue from evil And your lips from speaking deceit. |
14Turn away from evil and do what is right! Strive for peace and promote it! | 14Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it. |
15The LORD pays attention to the godly and hears their cry for help. | 15The eyes of the LORD are toward the righteous And His ears are open to their cry. |
16But the LORD opposes evildoers and wipes out all memory of them from the earth. | 16The face of the LORD is against evildoers, To cut off the memory of them from the earth. |
17The godly cry out and the LORD hears; he saves them from all their troubles. | 17The righteous cry, and the LORD hears And delivers them out of all their troubles. |
18The LORD is near the brokenhearted; he delivers those who are discouraged. | 18The LORD is near to the brokenhearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit. |
19The godly face many dangers, but the LORD saves them from each one of them. | 19Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all. |
20He protects all his bones; not one of them is broken. | 20He keeps all his bones, Not one of them is broken. |
21Evil people self-destruct; those who hate the godly are punished. | 21Evil shall slay the wicked, And those who hate the righteous will be condemned. |
22The LORD rescues his servants; all who take shelter in him escape punishment. | 22The LORD redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who take refuge in Him will be condemned. |
