NET Bible | International Standard Version |
You godly ones, shout for joy because of the LORD! It is appropriate for the morally upright to offer him praise. | 1Rejoice in the LORD, righteous ones; for the praise of the upright is beautiful. |
Give thanks to the LORD with the harp! Sing to him to the accompaniment of a ten-stringed instrument! | 2With the lyre, give thanks to the LORD; with the ten stringed harp, play music to him; |
Sing to him a new song! Play skillfully as you shout out your praises to him! | 3with a new song, sing to him; with shouts of joy, play skillfully. |
For the LORD's decrees are just, and everything he does is fair. | 4For the word of the LORD is upright; and all his works are done in faithfulness. |
The LORD promotes equity and justice; the LORD's faithfulness extends throughout the earth. | 5He loves righteousness and justice; the world is filled with the gracious love of the LORD. |
By the LORD's decree the heavens were made; by a mere word from his mouth all the stars in the sky were created. | 6By the word of the LORD the heavens were made; all the heavenly bodies by the breath of his mouth. |
He piles up the water of the sea; he puts the oceans in storehouses. | 7He gathered the oceans into a single place; he put the deep water into storehouses. |
Let the whole earth fear the LORD! Let all who live in the world stand in awe of him! | 8Let all the world fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him; |
For he spoke, and it came into existence, he issued the decree, and it stood firm. | 9because he spoke and it came to be, because he commanded, it stood firm. |
The LORD frustrates the decisions of the nations; he nullifies the plans of the peoples. | 10The LORD makes void the counsel of nations; he frustrates the plans of peoples. |
The LORD's decisions stand forever; his plans abide throughout the ages. | 11But the LORD's counsel stands firm forever, the plans in his mind for all generations. |
How blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen to be his special possession. | 12How blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he has chosen as his own inheritance. |
The LORD watches from heaven; he sees all people. | 13When the LORD looks down from heaven, he observes every human being. |
From the place where he lives he looks carefully at all the earth's inhabitants. | 14From his dwelling place, he looks down on all the inhabitants of the earth. |
He is the one who forms every human heart, and takes note of all their actions. | 15He formed the hearts of them all; he understands everything they do. |
No king is delivered by his vast army; a warrior is not saved by his great might. | 16A king is not saved by a large army; a mighty soldier is not delivered by his great strength. |
A horse disappoints those who trust in it for victory; despite its great strength, it cannot deliver. | 17It is vain to trust in a horse for deliverance, even with its great strength, it cannot deliver. |
Look, the LORD takes notice of his loyal followers, those who wait for him to demonstrate his faithfulness | 18Indeed, the LORD watches those who fear him; those who trust in his gracious love |
by saving their lives from death and sustaining them during times of famine. | 19to deliver them from death; to keep them alive in times of famine. |
We wait for the LORD; he is our deliverer and shield. | 20We wait on the LORD; he is our help and our shield. |
For our hearts rejoice in him, for we trust in his holy name. | 21Indeed, our heart will rejoice in him, because we have placed our trust in his holy name. |
May we experience your faithfulness, O LORD, for we wait for you. | 22LORD, may your gracious love be upon us, even as we hope in you. |
