1You godly ones, shout for joy because of the LORD! It is appropriate for the morally upright to offer him praise. | 1Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous ones; praise from the upright is beautiful. |
2Give thanks to the LORD with the harp! Sing to him to the accompaniment of a ten-stringed instrument! | 2Praise the LORD with the lyre; make music to him with a ten-stringed harp. |
3Sing to him a new song! Play skillfully as you shout out your praises to him! | 3Sing a new song to him; play skillfully on the strings, with a joyful shout. |
4For the LORD's decrees are just, and everything he does is fair. | 4For the word of the LORD is right, and all his work is trustworthy. |
5The LORD promotes equity and justice; the LORD's faithfulness extends throughout the earth. | 5He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the LORD's unfailing love. |
6By the LORD's decree the heavens were made; by a mere word from his mouth all the stars in the sky were created. | 6The heavens were made by the word of the LORD, and all the stars, by the breath of his mouth. |

14From the place where he lives he looks carefully at all the earth's inhabitants. | 14He gazes on all the inhabitants of the earth from his dwelling place. |
15He is the one who forms every human heart, and takes note of all their actions. | 15He forms the hearts of them all; he considers all their works. |
16No king is delivered by his vast army; a warrior is not saved by his great might. | 16A king is not saved by a large army; a warrior will not be rescued by great strength. |
17A horse disappoints those who trust in it for victory; despite its great strength, it cannot deliver. | 17The horse is a false hope for safety; it provides no escape by its great power. |
18Look, the LORD takes notice of his loyal followers, those who wait for him to demonstrate his faithfulness | 18But look, the LORD keeps his eye on those who fear him--those who depend on his faithful love |
19by saving their lives from death and sustaining them during times of famine. | 19to rescue them from death and to keep them alive in famine. |
20We wait for the LORD; he is our deliverer and shield. | 20We wait for the LORD; he is our help and shield. |
21For our hearts rejoice in him, for we trust in his holy name. | 21For our hearts rejoice in him because we trust in his holy name. |
22May we experience your faithfulness, O LORD, for we wait for you. | 22May your faithful love rest on us, LORD, for we put our hope in you. |
