| 1Jesus also said to the disciples, "There was a rich man who was informed of accusations that his manager was wasting his assets. | 1He also said to the disciples: "There was a rich man who received an accusation that his manager was squandering his possessions. |
| 2So he called the manager in and said to him, 'What is this I hear about you? Turn in the account of your administration, because you can no longer be my manager.' | 2So he called the manager in and asked, What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you can no longer be my manager.' |
| 3Then the manager said to himself, 'What should I do, since my master is taking my position away from me? I'm not strong enough to dig, and I'm too ashamed to beg. | 3"Then the manager said to himself, What should I do, since my master is taking the management away from me? I'm not strong enough to dig; I'm ashamed to beg. |
| 4I know what to do so that when I am put out of management, people will welcome me into their homes.' | 4I know what I'll do so that when I'm removed from management, people will welcome me into their homes.' |
| 5So he contacted his master's debtors one by one. He asked the first, 'How much do you owe my master?' | 5"So he summoned each one of his master's debtors. How much do you owe my master?' he asked the first one. |

| 7Then he said to another, 'And how much do you owe?' The second man replied, 'A hundred measures of wheat.' "'Take your invoice,' he told him, and write 80.' |
| 8The master commended the dishonest manager because he acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their contemporaries than the people of light. | 8"The master praised the unrighteous manager because he had acted astutely. For the sons of this age are more astute than the sons of light in dealing with their own people. |
| 9And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by how you use worldly wealth, so that when it runs out you will be welcomed into the eternal homes. | 9And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of the unrighteous money so that when it fails, they may welcome you into eternal dwellings. |
