And they presented burnt offerings and peace offerings to God. |
When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD. | 2When he had finished his sacrifices, David blessed the people in the name of the LORD. |
He distributed to everyone of Israel, both man and woman, to everyone a loaf of bread and a portion of meat and a raisin cake. | 3Then he gave to every man and woman in all Israel a loaf of bread, a cake of dates, and a cake of raisins. |
He appointed some of the Levites as ministers before the ark of the LORD, even to celebrate and to thank and praise the LORD God of Israel: | 4David appointed the following Levites to lead the people in worship before the Ark of the LORD—to invoke his blessings, to give thanks, and to praise the LORD, the God of Israel. |
Asaph the chief, and second to him Zechariah, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom and Jeiel, with musical instruments, harps, lyres; also Asaph played loud-sounding cymbals, | 5Asaph, the leader of this group, sounded the cymbals. 6and Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests blew trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God. | 6The priests, Benaiah and Jahaziel, played the trumpets regularly before the Ark of God’s Covenant. David’s Song of Praise |
Then on that day David first assigned Asaph and his relatives to give thanks to the LORD. | 7On that day David gave to Asaph and his fellow Levites this song of thanksgiving to the LORD: |
Oh give thanks to the LORD, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples. | 8Give thanks to the LORD and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. |
Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; Speak of all His wonders. | 9Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds. |
Glory in His holy name; Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad. | 10Exult in his holy name; rejoice, you who worship the LORD. |
Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face continually. | 11Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him. |
Remember His wonderful deeds which He has done, His marvels and the judgments from His mouth, | 12Remember the wonders he has performed, his miracles, and the rulings he has given, |
O seed of Israel His servant, Sons of Jacob, His chosen ones! | 13you children of his servant Israel, you descendants of Jacob, his chosen ones. |
He is the LORD our God; His judgments are in all the earth. | 14He is the LORD our God. His justice is seen throughout the land. |
Remember His covenant forever, The word which He commanded to a thousand generations, | 15Remember his covenant forever— the commitment he made to a thousand generations. |
The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac. | 16This is the covenant he made with Abraham and the oath he swore to Isaac. |
He also confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant, | 17He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, and to the people of Israel as a never-ending covenant: |
Saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan, As the portion of your inheritance." | 18“I will give you the land of Canaan as your special possession.” |
When they were only a few in number, Very few, and strangers in it, | 19He said this when you were few in number, a tiny group of strangers in Canaan. |
And they wandered about from nation to nation, And from one kingdom to another people, | 20They wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another. |
He permitted no man to oppress them, And He reproved kings for their sakes, saying, | 21Yet he did not let anyone oppress them. He warned kings on their behalf: |
"Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm." | 22“Do not touch my chosen people, and do not hurt my prophets.” |
Sing to the LORD, all the earth; Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day. | 23Let the whole earth sing to the LORD! Each day proclaim the good news that he saves. |
Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples. | 24Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does. |
For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; He also is to be feared above all gods. | 25Great is the LORD! He is most worthy of praise! He is to be feared above all gods. |
For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the LORD made the heavens. | 26The gods of other nations are mere idols, but the LORD made the heavens! |
Splendor and majesty are before Him, Strength and joy are in His place. | 27Honor and majesty surround him; strength and joy fill his dwelling. |
Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, Ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. | 28O nations of the world, recognize the LORD, recognize that the LORD is glorious and strong. |
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come before Him; Worship the LORD in holy array. | 29Give to the LORD the glory he deserves! Bring your offering and come into his presence. Worship the LORD in all his holy splendor. |
Tremble before Him, all the earth; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved. | 30Let all the earth tremble before him. The world stands firm and cannot be shaken. |
Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; And let them say among the nations, "The LORD reigns." | 31Let the heavens be glad, and the earth rejoice! Tell all the nations, “The LORD reigns!” |
Let the sea roar, and all it contains; Let the field exult, and all that is in it. | 32Let the sea and everything in it shout his praise! Let the fields and their crops burst out with joy! |
Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the LORD; For He is coming to judge the earth. | 33Let the trees of the forest sing for joy before the LORD, for he is coming to judge the earth. |
O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting. | 34Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. |
Then say, "Save us, O God of our salvation, And gather us and deliver us from the nations, To give thanks to Your holy name, And glory in Your praise." | 35Cry out, “Save us, O God of our salvation! Gather and rescue us from among the nations, so we can thank your holy name and rejoice and praise you.” |
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, From everlasting even to everlasting. Then all the people said, "Amen," and praised the LORD. | 36Praise the LORD, the God of Israel, who lives from everlasting to everlasting! And all the people shouted “Amen!” and praised the LORD. 41With them were Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest who were chosen, who were designated by name, to give thanks to the LORD, because His lovingkindness is everlasting. | 41David also appointed Heman, Jeduthun, and the others chosen by name to give thanks to the LORD, for “his faithful love endures forever.” |
And with them were Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those who should sound aloud, and with instruments for the songs of God, and the sons of Jeduthun for the gate. | 42They used their trumpets, cymbals, and other instruments to accompany their songs of praise to God. And the sons of Jeduthun were appointed as gatekeepers. |
Then all the people departed each to his house, and David returned to bless his household. | 43Then all the people returned to their homes, and David turned and went home to bless his own family. |
