A Psalm of David when he feigned madness before Abimelech, who drove him away and he departed. I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.1Written by David, when he pretended to be insane before Abimelech, causing the king to send him away. I will praise the LORD at all times; my mouth will continually praise him.
My soul will make its boast in the LORD; The humble will hear it and rejoice.2I will boast in the LORD; let the oppressed hear and rejoice!
O magnify the LORD with me, And let us exalt His name together.3Magnify the LORD with me! Let's praise his name together!
I sought the LORD, and He answered me, And delivered me from all my fears.4I sought the LORD's help and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.
They looked to Him and were radiant, And their faces will never be ashamed.5Those who look to him for help are happy; their faces are not ashamed.
This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him And saved him out of all his troubles.6This oppressed man cried out and the LORD heard; he saved him from all his troubles.
The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, And rescues them.7The LORD's angel camps around the LORD's loyal followers and delivers them.
O taste and see that the LORD is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!8Taste and see that the LORD is good! How blessed is the one who takes shelter in him!
O fear the LORD, you His saints; For to those who fear Him there is no want.9Remain loyal to the LORD, you chosen people of his, for his loyal followers lack nothing!
The young lions do lack and suffer hunger; But they who seek the LORD shall not be in want of any good thing.10Even young lions sometimes lack food and are hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.11Come children! Listen to me! I will teach you what it means to fear the LORD.
Who is the man who desires life And loves length of days that he may see good?12Do you want to really live? Would you love to live a long, happy life?
Keep your tongue from evil And your lips from speaking deceit.13Then make sure you don't speak evil words or use deceptive speech!
Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it.14Turn away from evil and do what is right! Strive for peace and promote it!
The eyes of the LORD are toward the righteous And His ears are open to their cry.15The LORD pays attention to the godly and hears their cry for help.
The face of the LORD is against evildoers, To cut off the memory of them from the earth.16But the LORD opposes evildoers and wipes out all memory of them from the earth.
The righteous cry, and the LORD hears And delivers them out of all their troubles.17The godly cry out and the LORD hears; he saves them from all their troubles.
The LORD is near to the brokenhearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit.18The LORD is near the brokenhearted; he delivers those who are discouraged.
Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all.19The godly face many dangers, but the LORD saves them from each one of them.
He keeps all his bones, Not one of them is broken.20He protects all his bones; not one of them is broken.
Evil shall slay the wicked, And those who hate the righteous will be condemned.21Evil people self-destruct; those who hate the godly are punished.
The LORD redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who take refuge in Him will be condemned.22The LORD rescues his servants; all who take shelter in him escape punishment.
