New American Standard Bible 1995 | International Standard Version |
A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread? | 1The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom will I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom will I be afraid? |
When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh, My adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell. | 2When those who practice evil, my enemies, and my oppressors come near me to devour my flesh, they stumble and fall. |
Though a host encamp against me, My heart will not fear; Though war arise against me, In spite of this I shall be confident. | 3If an army encamps against me, my heart will not fear. If a war is launched against me, I will even trust in that situation. |
One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD And to meditate in His temple. | 4I have asked one thing from the LORD; it is what I really seek: that I may remain in the LORD's Temple all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD; and to inquire in his Temple. |
For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; In the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock. | 5For he will conceal me in his shelter on the day of evil; He will hide me in a secluded chamber within his tent; He will place me on a high rock. |
And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, And I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD. | 6Now my head will be lifted up above my enemies, even those who surround me. I will sacrifice in his tent with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melodies to the LORD. |
Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice, And be gracious to me and answer me. | 7Hear my voice, LORD, when I cry out! Be gracious to me and answer me. |
When You said, "Seek My face," my heart said to You, "Your face, O LORD, I shall seek." | 8My mind recalls your word, "Seek my face," so your face, LORD, I will seek. |
Do not hide Your face from me, Do not turn Your servant away in anger; You have been my help; Do not abandon me nor forsake me, O God of my salvation! | 9Do not hide your face from me; do not turn away in anger from your servant. You have been my help, therefore do not abandon or forsake me, God of my salvation. |
For my father and my mother have forsaken me, But the LORD will take me up. | 10Though my father and my mother abandoned me, the LORD gathers me up. |
Teach me Your way, O LORD, And lead me in a level path Because of my foes. | 11Teach me your way, LORD, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies. |
Do not deliver me over to the desire of my adversaries, For false witnesses have risen against me, And such as breathe out violence. | 12Do not hand me over to the desires of my enemies; for false witnesses have risen up against me; even the one who breathes out violence. |
I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living. | 13I believe that I will see the LORD's goodness in the land of the living. |
Wait for the LORD; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD. | 14Wait on the LORD. Be courageous, and he will strengthen your heart. Wait on the LORD! |
