Bless the LORD, O my soul! O LORD my God, You are very great; You are clothed with splendor and majesty, | 1Bless the LORD, my soul; LORD, my God, you are very great. You are clothed in splendor and majesty; |
Covering Yourself with light as with a cloak, Stretching out heaven like a tent curtain. | 2you are wrapped in light like a garment, stretching out the sky like a curtain. |
He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters; He makes the clouds His chariot; He walks upon the wings of the wind; | 3He lays the beams of his roof loft on the water above, making clouds his chariot, walking on the wings of the wind. |
He makes the winds His messengers, Flaming fire His ministers. | 4He makes the winds his messengers, blazing fires his servants. |
He established the earth upon its foundations, So that it will not totter forever and ever. | 5He established the earth on its foundations, so that it never falters. |
You covered it with the deep as with a garment; The waters were standing above the mountains. | 6You covered the primeval ocean like a garment; the water stood above the mountains. |
At Your rebuke they fled, At the sound of Your thunder they hurried away. | 7They flee at your rebuke; they rush away at the sound of your thunders. |
The mountains rose; the valleys sank down To the place which You established for them. | 8Mountains rise up and valleys sink to the place you have ordained for them. |
You set a boundary that they may not pass over, So that they will not return to cover the earth. | 9You have set a boundary they cannot cross; they will never again cover the earth. |
He sends forth springs in the valleys; They flow between the mountains; | 10He causes springs to gush forth into rivers that flow between the mountains. |
They give drink to every beast of the field; The wild donkeys quench their thirst. | 11They give water for animals of the field to drink; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. |
Beside them the birds of the heavens dwell; They lift up their voices among the branches. | 12Birds of the sky live beside them and chirp a song among the foliage. |
He waters the mountains from His upper chambers; The earth is satisfied with the fruit of His works. | 13He waters the mountains from his heavenly rooms; the earth is satisfied from the fruit of your work. |
He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, And vegetation for the labor of man, So that he may bring forth food from the earth, | 14He causes grass to sprout for the cattle and plants for people to cultivate, to produce food from the land, |
And wine which makes man's heart glad, So that he may make his face glisten with oil, And food which sustains man's heart. | 15like wine that makes the heart of people happy, oil that makes the face glow, and food that sustains people. |
The trees of the LORD drink their fill, The cedars of Lebanon which He planted, | 16The loftiest trees are satisfied, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted, |
Where the birds build their nests, And the stork, whose home is the fir trees. | 17the birds build their nests there, and the heron builds its nest among the evergreen. |
The high mountains are for the wild goats; The cliffs are a refuge for the shephanim. | 18The high mountains are for wild goats; the cliffs are a refuge for the rock badger. |
He made the moon for the seasons; The sun knows the place of its setting. | 19He made the moon to mark time; the sun knows its setting time. |
You appoint darkness and it becomes night, In which all the beasts of the forest prowl about. | 20You bring darkness and it becomes night; when every beast of the forest prowls. |
The young lions roar after their prey And seek their food from God. | 21Young lions roar for prey, seeking their food from God. |
When the sun rises they withdraw And lie down in their dens. | 22When the sun rises, they gather and lie down in their dens. |
Man goes forth to his work And to his labor until evening. | 23People go out to their work and labor until evening. |
O LORD, how many are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all; The earth is full of Your possessions. | 24How numerous are your works, LORD! You have made them all wisely; the earth is filled with your creations. |
There is the sea, great and broad, In which are swarms without number, Animals both small and great. | 25There is the deep and wide sea, teeming with numberless creatures, living things small and great. |
There the ships move along, And Leviathan, which You have formed to sport in it. | 26There, the ships pass through; Leviathan, which you created, frolics in it. |
They all wait for You To give them their food in due season. | 27All of them look to you to provide them their food at the proper time. |
You give to them, they gather it up; You open Your hand, they are satisfied with good. | 28They receive what you give them; when you open your hand, they are filled with good things. |
You hide Your face, they are dismayed; You take away their spirit, they expire And return to their dust. | 29When you withdraw your favor, they are disappointed; Take away their breath, and they die and return to dust. |
You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; And You renew the face of the ground. | 30When you send your spirit, they are created, and you replenish the surface of the earth. |
Let the glory of the LORD endure forever; Let the LORD be glad in His works; | 31May the glory of the LORD last forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works! |
He looks at the earth, and it trembles; He touches the mountains, and they smoke. | 32He looks at the earth and it shakes; he touches the mountains and they smoke. |
I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. | 33I will sing to the LORD with my whole being; I will sing to my God continually! |
Let my meditation be pleasing to Him; As for me, I shall be glad in the LORD. | 34May my thoughts be pleasing to him; indeed, I will rejoice in the LORD! |
Let sinners be consumed from the earth And let the wicked be no more. Bless the LORD, O my soul. Praise the LORD! | 35May sinners disappear from the land and the wicked live no longer. Bless the LORD, my soul! Hallelujah! |
