Ephesians 5
KJV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
King James BibleNew American Standard Bible 1995
Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;1Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;
And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.2and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.
But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;3But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints;
Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.4and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.
For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.5For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.6Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
Be not ye therefore partakers with them.7Therefore do not be partakers with them;
For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:8for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light
(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)9(for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth),
Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.10trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.11Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them;
For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.12for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.
But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.13But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light.
Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.14For this reason it says, "Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you."
See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,15Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise,
Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.16making the most of your time, because the days are evil.
Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.17So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;18And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;19speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord;
Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;20always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father;
Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.21and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.22Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord.
For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.23For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body.
Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.24But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her,
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,26so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.27that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.
So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.28So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself;
For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:29for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church,
For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.30because we are members of His body.
For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.31FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND SHALL BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH.
This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.32This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church.
Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.33Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband.
