King James Bible | English Standard Version |
A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? | 1The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? |
When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. | 2When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall. |
Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. | 3Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident. |
One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple. | 4One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple. |
For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. | 5For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock. |
And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD. | 6And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the LORD. |
Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me. | 7Hear, O LORD, when I cry aloud; be gracious to me and answer me! |
When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek. | 8You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, LORD, do I seek.” |
Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation. | 9Hide not your face from me. Turn not your servant away in anger, O you who have been my help. Cast me not off; forsake me not, O God of my salvation! |
When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up. | 10For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the LORD will take me in. |
Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies. | 11Teach me your way, O LORD, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies. |
Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty. | 12Give me not up to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence. |
I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. | 13I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! |
Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. | 14Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD! |
