King James Bible | English Standard Version |
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, | 1And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, |
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, I am the LORD your God. | 2“Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, I am the LORD your God. |
After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances. | 3You shall not do as they do in the land of Egypt, where you lived, and you shall not do as they do in the land of Canaan, to which I am bringing you. You shall not walk in their statutes. |
Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God. | 4You shall follow my rules and keep my statutes and walk in them. I am the LORD your God. |
Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD. | 5You shall therefore keep my statutes and my rules; if a person does them, he shall live by them: I am the LORD. |
None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD. | 6“None of you shall approach any one of his close relatives to uncover nakedness. I am the LORD. |
The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. | 7You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father, which is the nakedness of your mother; she is your mother, you shall not uncover her nakedness. |
The nakedness of thy father's wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father's nakedness. | 8You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s wife; it is your father’s nakedness. |
The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or daughter of thy mother, whether she be born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover. | 9You shall not uncover the nakedness of your sister, your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether brought up in the family or in another home. |
The nakedness of thy son's daughter, or of thy daughter's daughter, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover: for theirs is thine own nakedness. | 10You shall not uncover the nakedness of your son’s daughter or of your daughter’s daughter, for their nakedness is your own nakedness. |
The nakedness of thy father's wife's daughter, begotten of thy father, she is thy sister, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. | 11You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s wife’s daughter, brought up in your father’s family, since she is your sister. |
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's sister: she is thy father's near kinswoman. | 12You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s sister; she is your father’s relative. |
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother's sister: for she is thy mother's near kinswoman. | 13You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother’s sister, for she is your mother’s relative. |
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's brother, thou shalt not approach to his wife: she is thine aunt. | 14You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s brother, that is, you shall not approach his wife; she is your aunt. |
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy daughter in law: she is thy son's wife; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. | 15You shall not uncover the nakedness of your daughter-in-law; she is your son’s wife, you shall not uncover her nakedness. |
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother's wife: it is thy brother's nakedness. | 16You shall not uncover the nakedness of your brother’s wife; it is your brother’s nakedness. |
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son's daughter, or her daughter's daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near kinswomen: it is wickedness. | 17You shall not uncover the nakedness of a woman and of her daughter, and you shall not take her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter to uncover her nakedness; they are relatives; it is depravity. |
Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time. | 18And you shall not take a woman as a rival wife to her sister, uncovering her nakedness while her sister is still alive. |
Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put apart for her uncleanness. | 19“You shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness while she is in her menstrual uncleanness. |
Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour's wife, to defile thyself with her. | 20And you shall not lie sexually with your neighbor’s wife and so make yourself unclean with her. |
And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD. | 21You shall not give any of your children to offer them to Molech, and so profane the name of your God: I am the LORD. |
Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. | 22You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination. |
Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion. | 23And you shall not lie with any animal and so make yourself unclean with it, neither shall any woman give herself to an animal to lie with it: it is perversion. |
Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: | 24“Do not make yourselves unclean by any of these things, for by all these the nations I am driving out before you have become unclean, |
And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants. | 25and the land became unclean, so that I punished its iniquity, and the land vomited out its inhabitants. |
Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you: | 26But you shall keep my statutes and my rules and do none of these abominations, either the native or the stranger who sojourns among you |
(For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;) | 27(for the people of the land, who were before you, did all of these abominations, so that the land became unclean), |
That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you. | 28lest the land vomit you out when you make it unclean, as it vomited out the nation that was before you. |
For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people. | 29For everyone who does any of these abominations, the persons who do them shall be cut off from among their people. |
Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God. | 30So keep my charge never to practice any of these abominable customs that were practiced before you, and never to make yourselves unclean by them: I am the LORD your God.” |
