International Standard Version | New Living Translation |
Shepherd of Israel, listen! The one who leads Joseph like a flock, the one enthroned on the cherubim, display your glory. | 1Please listen, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph’s descendants like a flock. O God, enthroned above the cherubim, display your radiant glory |
Reveal your power before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh, then come to our rescue. | 2to Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh. Show us your mighty power. Come to rescue us! |
God, restore us, show your favor and deliver us. | 3Turn us again to yourself, O God. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved. |
LORD God of the Heavenly Armies, when will your smoldering anger toward your people's prayers cease? | 4O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies, how long will you be angry with our prayers? |
You fed them tears as their food, and caused them to drink a full measure of tears. | 5You have fed us with sorrow and made us drink tears by the bucketful. |
You have set us at strife against our neighbors and our enemies deride us. | 6You have made us the scorn of neighboring nations. Our enemies treat us as a joke. |
God of the Heavenly Armies, restore us and show your favor, so we may be delivered. | 7Turn us again to yourself, O God of Heaven’s Armies. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved. |
You uprooted a vine from Egypt, and drove out nations to transplant it. | 8You brought us from Egypt like a grapevine; you drove away the pagan nations and transplanted us into your land. |
You cleared the ground so that its roots grew and filled the land. | 9You cleared the ground for us, and we took root and filled the land. |
Mountains were covered by its shadows, and the mighty cedars by its branches. | 10Our shade covered the mountains; our branches covered the mighty cedars. |
Its branches spread out to the Mediterranean Sea and its shoots to the Euphrates River. | 11We spread our branches west to the Mediterranean Sea; our shoots spread east to the Euphrates River. |
Why did you break down its walls so that those who pass by pluck its fruits? | 12But now, why have you broken down our walls so that all who pass by may steal our fruit? |
Wild boars of the forest gnaw at it, and creatures of the field feed on it. | 13The wild boar from the forest devours it, and the wild animals feed on it. |
God of the Heavenly Armies, return! Look down from heaven and see. Show care toward this vine. | 14Come back, we beg you, O God of Heaven’s Armies. Look down from heaven and see our plight. Take care of this grapevine |
The root that your right hand planted, the shoot that you tended for yourself, | 15that you yourself have planted, this son you have raised for yourself. |
was burned with fire, cut off, and destroyed on account of your rebuke. | 16For we are chopped up and burned by our enemies. May they perish at the sight of your frown. |
May you support the man at your right hand; the son of man whom you have raised for yourself. | 17Strengthen the man you love, the son of your choice. |
Then we will not turn away from you. Restore us, so we can call upon your name. | 18Then we will never abandon you again. Revive us so we can call on your name once more. |
God of hosts, restore to us the light of your favor. Then we'll be delivered. | 19Turn us again to yourself, O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved. |
