International Standard Version | New Living Translation |
Rejoice in the LORD, righteous ones; for the praise of the upright is beautiful. | 1Let the godly sing for joy to the LORD; it is fitting for the pure to praise him. |
With the lyre, give thanks to the LORD; with the ten stringed harp, play music to him; | 2Praise the LORD with melodies on the lyre; make music for him on the ten-stringed harp. |
with a new song, sing to him; with shouts of joy, play skillfully. | 3Sing a new song of praise to him; play skillfully on the harp, and sing with joy. |
For the word of the LORD is upright; and all his works are done in faithfulness. | 4For the word of the LORD holds true, and we can trust everything he does. |
He loves righteousness and justice; the world is filled with the gracious love of the LORD. | 5He loves whatever is just and good; the unfailing love of the LORD fills the earth. |
By the word of the LORD the heavens were made; all the heavenly bodies by the breath of his mouth. | 6The LORD merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. |
He gathered the oceans into a single place; he put the deep water into storehouses. | 7He assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. |
Let all the world fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him; | 8Let the whole world fear the LORD, and let everyone stand in awe of him. |
because he spoke and it came to be, because he commanded, it stood firm. | 9For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command. |
The LORD makes void the counsel of nations; he frustrates the plans of peoples. | 10The LORD frustrates the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes. |
But the LORD's counsel stands firm forever, the plans in his mind for all generations. | 11But the LORD’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken. |
How blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he has chosen as his own inheritance. | 12What joy for the nation whose God is the LORD, whose people he has chosen as his inheritance. |
When the LORD looks down from heaven, he observes every human being. | 13The LORD looks down from heaven and sees the whole human race. |
From his dwelling place, he looks down on all the inhabitants of the earth. | 14From his throne he observes all who live on the earth. |
He formed the hearts of them all; he understands everything they do. | 15He made their hearts, so he understands everything they do. |
A king is not saved by a large army; a mighty soldier is not delivered by his great strength. | 16The best-equipped army cannot save a king, nor is great strength enough to save a warrior. |
It is vain to trust in a horse for deliverance, even with its great strength, it cannot deliver. | 17Don’t count on your warhorse to give you victory— for all its strength, it cannot save you. |
Indeed, the LORD watches those who fear him; those who trust in his gracious love | 18But the LORD watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love. |
to deliver them from death; to keep them alive in times of famine. | 19He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of famine. |
We wait on the LORD; he is our help and our shield. | 20We put our hope in the LORD. He is our help and our shield. |
Indeed, our heart will rejoice in him, because we have placed our trust in his holy name. | 21In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. |
LORD, may your gracious love be upon us, even as we hope in you. | 22Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD, for our hope is in you alone. |
