International Standard Version | New International Version |
Rejoice in the LORD, righteous ones; for the praise of the upright is beautiful. | 1Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. |
With the lyre, give thanks to the LORD; with the ten stringed harp, play music to him; | 2Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. |
with a new song, sing to him; with shouts of joy, play skillfully. | 3Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. |
For the word of the LORD is upright; and all his works are done in faithfulness. | 4For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. |
He loves righteousness and justice; the world is filled with the gracious love of the LORD. | 5The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. |
By the word of the LORD the heavens were made; all the heavenly bodies by the breath of his mouth. | 6By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. |
He gathered the oceans into a single place; he put the deep water into storehouses. | 7He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. |
Let all the world fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him; | 8Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him. |
because he spoke and it came to be, because he commanded, it stood firm. | 9For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. |
The LORD makes void the counsel of nations; he frustrates the plans of peoples. | 10The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. |
But the LORD's counsel stands firm forever, the plans in his mind for all generations. | 11But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. |
How blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he has chosen as his own inheritance. | 12Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance. |
When the LORD looks down from heaven, he observes every human being. | 13From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; |
From his dwelling place, he looks down on all the inhabitants of the earth. | 14from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth-- |
He formed the hearts of them all; he understands everything they do. | 15he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. |
A king is not saved by a large army; a mighty soldier is not delivered by his great strength. | 16No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. |
It is vain to trust in a horse for deliverance, even with its great strength, it cannot deliver. | 17A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. |
Indeed, the LORD watches those who fear him; those who trust in his gracious love | 18But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, |
to deliver them from death; to keep them alive in times of famine. | 19to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. |
We wait on the LORD; he is our help and our shield. | 20We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. |
Indeed, our heart will rejoice in him, because we have placed our trust in his holy name. | 21In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. |
LORD, may your gracious love be upon us, even as we hope in you. | 22May your unfailing love be with us, LORD, even as we put our hope in you. |
