Job 24
ISV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionNew Living Translation
Why doesn't the Almighty reserve time for judgment? and why don't those who know him perceive his days?1“Why doesn’t the Almighty bring the wicked to judgment? Why must the godly wait for him in vain?
They move boundary stones, steal flocks, and pasture them. 2Evil people steal land by moving the boundary markers. They steal livestock and put them in their own pastures.
They drive away the orphan's donkey; they take the ox of the widow as security for a loan; 3They take the orphan’s donkey and demand the widow’s ox as security for a loan.
They push the needy off the road, and force the poor of the land into hiding.4The poor are pushed off the path; the needy must hide together for safety.
"Look! Like wild donkeys in the wilderness, they work diligently as they seek wild game in the desert, food for them and their young ones.5Like wild donkeys in the wilderness, the poor must spend all their time looking for food, searching even in the desert for food for their children.
They reap fodder in the field and glean in the vineyard of the wicked.6They harvest a field they do not own, and they glean in the vineyards of the wicked.
They spend the night naked, without clothing, with no covering against the cold.7All night they lie naked in the cold, without clothing or covering.
They are wet from mountain rains; without shelter, they cling to a rock.8They are soaked by mountain showers, and they huddle against the rocks for want of a home.
"The fatherless are torn from the breast; the poor are taken away as security for a loan. 9“The wicked snatch a widow’s child from her breast, taking the baby as security for a loan.
They wander around naked, without clothes; hungry, though they carry sheaves of grain. 10The poor must go about naked, without any clothing. They harvest food for others while they themselves are starving.
They press oil between the olive groves owned by the wicked; they suffer from thirst, even while treading the winepress.11They press out olive oil without being allowed to taste it, and they tread in the winepress as they suffer from thirst.
From the city, dying men groan aloud, and the wounded cries out for help, but God charges no one with wrong.12The groans of the dying rise from the city, and the wounded cry for help, yet God ignores their moaning.
"Then there are those who rebel against the light; they are not acquainted with its ways; and they don't stay on its course. 13“Wicked people rebel against the light. They refuse to acknowledge its ways or stay in its paths.
The murderer rises at dawn to kill the poor and needy; at night, he is like a thief.14The murderer rises in the early dawn to kill the poor and needy; at night he is a thief.
The adulterer watches for twilight, saying, 'No eye is watching me' while he veils his face.15The adulterer waits for the twilight, saying, ‘No one will see me then.’ He hides his face so no one will know him.
They break into houses in the dark; during the day they remained sealed in. They don't know daylight.16Thieves break into houses at night and sleep in the daytime. They are not acquainted with the light.
As a group, deep darkness is their morning time; fear that lives in darkness is their friend."17The black night is their morning. They ally themselves with the terrors of the darkness.
"They remain only a short time on the water's surface; their inheritance will be cursed in the land; no one will work in their vineyards.18“But they disappear like foam down a river. Everything they own is cursed, and they are afraid to enter their own vineyards.
As drought and heat evaporate melting snow, that's what Sheol does with sinners.19The grave consumes sinners just as drought and heat consume snow.
The womb will forget them. Maggots will find them to be a delicacy! They won't be remembered anymore, their iniquity will be cut to pieces like firewood. 20Their own mothers will forget them. Maggots will find them sweet to eat. No one will remember them. Wicked people are broken like a tree in the storm.
"They prey on the barren woman, and do no favors for widows.21They cheat the woman who has no son to help her. They refuse to help the needy widow.
God prolongs the life of the strong by his power, but they get up in the morning without purpose in life.22“God, in his power, drags away the rich. They may rise high, but they have no assurance of life.
He gives them security and financial support, but he watches everything they do.23They may be allowed to live in security, but God is always watching them.
They're exalted momentarily, but then they are gone; they are humbled, just like all the others. They are cut down like heads of corn.24And though they are great now, in a moment they will be gone like all others, cut off like heads of grain.
If this weren't so, who can prove that I'm a liar by showing that there's nothing to what I'm saying?"25Can anyone claim otherwise? Who can prove me wrong?”
