I exalt you, LORD, for you have lifted me up, and my enemies could not gloat over me. | 1A psalm. A song. For the dedication of the temple. Of David. I will exalt you, LORD, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me. |
LORD, my God! I cried out to you for help and you healed me. | 2LORD my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me. |
LORD, you brought me from death; you kept me alive so that I did not descend into the Pit. | 3You, LORD, brought me up from the realm of the dead; you spared me from going down to the pit. |
You, his godly ones, sing to the LORD, give thanks at the mention of his holiness. | 4Sing the praises of the LORD, you his faithful people; praise his holy name. |
For his wrath is only momentary; yet his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may lodge for the night, but shouts of joy will come in the morning. | 5For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning. |
As for me, I said in my prosperity, "I will never be moved." | 6When I felt secure, I said, "I will never be shaken." |
By your favor, LORD, you established me as a strong mountain; Then you hid your face, and I was dismayed. | 7LORD, when you favored me, you made my royal mountain stand firm; but when you hid your face, I was dismayed. |
I cried out to you, LORD, and I make supplication to the Lord: | 8To you, LORD, I called; to the Lord I cried for mercy: |
"What profit is there in my death if I go down to the Pit? Can dust worship you? Can it proclaim your faithfulness?" | 9"What is gained if I am silenced, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it proclaim your faithfulness? |
Hear me, LORD, and have mercy on me! LORD, help me! | 10Hear, LORD, and be merciful to me; LORD, be my help." |
You have turned my mourning into dancing; you took off my sackcloth and clothed me with a garment of joy, | 11You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, |
so that I may sing praise to you and not remain silent. LORD, my God, I will give you thanks forever! | 12that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. LORD my God, I will praise you forever. |
