I exalt you, LORD, for you have lifted me up, and my enemies could not gloat over me. | 1A psalm--a song used at the dedication of the temple; by David. I will praise you, O LORD, for you lifted me up, and did not allow my enemies to gloat over me. |
LORD, my God! I cried out to you for help and you healed me. | 2O LORD my God, I cried out to you and you healed me. |
LORD, you brought me from death; you kept me alive so that I did not descend into the Pit. | 3O LORD, you pulled me up from Sheol; you rescued me from among those descending into the grave. |
You, his godly ones, sing to the LORD, give thanks at the mention of his holiness. | 4Sing to the LORD, you faithful followers of his; give thanks to his holy name. |
For his wrath is only momentary; yet his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may lodge for the night, but shouts of joy will come in the morning. | 5For his anger lasts only a brief moment, and his good favor restores one's life. One may experience sorrow during the night, but joy arrives in the morning. |
As for me, I said in my prosperity, "I will never be moved." | 6In my self-confidence I said, "I will never be upended." |
By your favor, LORD, you established me as a strong mountain; Then you hid your face, and I was dismayed. | 7O LORD, in your good favor you made me secure. Then you rejected me and I was terrified. |
I cried out to you, LORD, and I make supplication to the Lord: | 8To you, O LORD, I cried out; I begged the Lord for mercy: |
"What profit is there in my death if I go down to the Pit? Can dust worship you? Can it proclaim your faithfulness?" | 9"What profit is there in taking my life, in my descending into the Pit? Can the dust of the grave praise you? Can it declare your loyalty? |
Hear me, LORD, and have mercy on me! LORD, help me! | 10Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me! O LORD, deliver me!" |
You have turned my mourning into dancing; you took off my sackcloth and clothed me with a garment of joy, | 11Then you turned my lament into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and covered me with joy. |
so that I may sing praise to you and not remain silent. LORD, my God, I will give you thanks forever! | 12So now my heart will sing to you and not be silent; O LORD my God, I will always give thanks to you. |
