Job continued with his discussion and said:1And Job took up his discourse again:
"The living God has withheld justice from me; the Almighty has made my life bitter.2"As surely as God lives, who has denied me justice, the Almighty, who has made my life bitter--
As long as I can breathe; as long as God's breath is in my nostrils,3for while my spirit is still in me, and the breath from God is in my nostrils,
I won't speak lies nor will I utter deceit.4my lips will not speak wickedness, and my tongue will whisper no deceit.
Far be it from me to admit that you're right! I intend to maintain my integrity even if it kills me!5I will never declare that you three are in the right; until I die, I will not set aside my integrity!
I'll retain my righteousness and not compromise it; my conscience won't rebuke me at any time.6I will maintain my righteousness and never let it go; my conscience will not reproach me for as long as I live.
"May my enemy be like the wicked; my adversary like the unjust. 7"May my enemy be like the wicked, my adversary like the unrighteous.
For where is the hope of the godless when he is eliminated; when God takes away his life?8For what hope does the godless have when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?
Will God hear his cry when distress overtakes him?9Does God listen to his cry when distress overtakes him?
Will he take delight in the Almighty? Will he call on God at all times?"10Will he find delight in the Almighty? Will he call out to God at all times?
"I'll teach you about the power of God, that which is with the Almighty I won't conceal.11I will teach you about the power of God; What is on the Almighty's mind I will not conceal.
Look! All of you have been watching, so why have you become so completely worthless?12If you yourselves have all seen this, Why in the world do you continue this meaningless talk?
"This is what a wicked person inherits from God, and what the ruthless will receive from the Almighty:13This is the portion of the wicked man allotted by God, the inheritance that evildoers receive from the Almighty.
If he has many children, their destiny is to die by the sword, and his descendants won't have enough food.14If his children increase--it is for the sword! His offspring never have enough to eat.
Those who do survive him disease will bury, and his widow won't even weep.15Those who survive him are buried by the plague, and their widows do not mourn for them.
"Though he hoards silver like dust, and stores away garments like clay,16If he piles up silver like dust and stores up clothing like mounds of clay,
whatever he stores up, the righteous will wear, and the innocent will inherit that silver!17what he stores up a righteous man will wear, and an innocent man will inherit his silver.
"He has built his house like a moth's cocoon, like a temporary sunshade that a watchman makes.18The house he builds is as fragile as a moth's cocoon, like a hut that a watchman has made.
He will go to bed wealthy, but won't be doing that anymore! When he opens his eyes, it will be gone!19He goes to bed wealthy, but will do so no more. When he opens his eyes, it is all gone.
Terror will overtake him like a flood, at night, a tornado will sweep him away.20Terrors overwhelm him like a flood; at night a whirlwind carries him off.
He'll be swept up by a storm wind and carried away; he'll be whirled away from his place.21The east wind carries him away, and he is gone; it sweeps him out of his place.
It will toss him around without pity. He'll try to break free from its grip, 22It hurls itself against him without pity as he flees headlong from its power.
but it will clap its hands over him, hissing at him as it lunges toward him." 23It claps its hands at him in derision and hisses him away from his place.
