The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom will I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom will I be afraid? | 1The LORD is my light and my salvation--whom should I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life--whom should I dread? |
When those who practice evil, my enemies, and my oppressors come near me to devour my flesh, they stumble and fall. | 2When evildoers came against me to devour my flesh, my foes and my enemies stumbled and fell. |
If an army encamps against me, my heart will not fear. If a war is launched against me, I will even trust in that situation. | 3Though an army deploys against me, my heart will not be afraid; though a war breaks out against me, I will still be confident. |
I have asked one thing from the LORD; it is what I really seek: that I may remain in the LORD's Temple all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD; and to inquire in his Temple. | 4I have asked one thing from the LORD; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the LORD and seeking him in his temple. |
For he will conceal me in his shelter on the day of evil; He will hide me in a secluded chamber within his tent; He will place me on a high rock. | 5For he will conceal me in his shelter in the day of adversity; he will hide me under the cover of his tent; he will set me high on a rock. |
Now my head will be lifted up above my enemies, even those who surround me. I will sacrifice in his tent with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melodies to the LORD. | 6Then my head will be high above my enemies around me; I will offer sacrifices in his tent with shouts of joy. I will sing and make music to the LORD. |
Hear my voice, LORD, when I cry out! Be gracious to me and answer me. | 7LORD, hear my voice when I call; be gracious to me and answer me. |
My mind recalls your word, "Seek my face," so your face, LORD, I will seek. | 8My heart says this about you: "Seek his face." LORD, I will seek your face. |
Do not hide your face from me; do not turn away in anger from your servant. You have been my help, therefore do not abandon or forsake me, God of my salvation. | 9Do not hide your face from me; do not turn your servant away in anger. You have been my helper; do not leave me or abandon me, God of my salvation. |
Though my father and my mother abandoned me, the LORD gathers me up. | 10Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD cares for me. |
Teach me your way, LORD, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies. | 11Because of my adversaries, show me your way, LORD, and lead me on a level path. |
Do not hand me over to the desires of my enemies; for false witnesses have risen up against me; even the one who breathes out violence. | 12Do not give me over to the will of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing violence. |
I believe that I will see the LORD's goodness in the land of the living. | 13I am certain that I will see the LORD's goodness in the land of the living. |
Wait on the LORD. Be courageous, and he will strengthen your heart. Wait on the LORD! | 14Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart be courageous. Wait for the LORD. |
