Dishonest scales are detestable to the LORD, but an accurate weight is His delight. | 1A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, But a just weight is His delight. |
When pride comes, disgrace follows, but with humility comes wisdom. | 2When pride comes, then comes dishonor, But with the humble is wisdom. |
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the perversity of the treacherous destroys them. | 3The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the crookedness of the treacherous will destroy them. |
Wealth is not profitable on a day of wrath, but righteousness rescues from death. | 4Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death. |
The righteousness of the blameless clears his path, but the wicked person will fall because of his wickedness. | 5The righteousness of the blameless will smooth his way, But the wicked will fall by his own wickedness. |
The righteousness of the upright rescues them, but the treacherous are trapped by their own desires. | 6The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, But the treacherous will be caught by their own greed. |
When the wicked man dies, his expectation comes to nothing, and hope placed in wealth vanishes. | 7When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish, And the hope of strong men perishes. |
The righteous one is rescued from trouble; in his place, the wicked one goes in. | 8The righteous is delivered from trouble, But the wicked takes his place. |
With his mouth the ungodly destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous are rescued. | 9With his mouth the godless man destroys his neighbor, But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered. |
When the righteous thrive, a city rejoices, and when the wicked die, there is joyful shouting. | 10When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices, And when the wicked perish, there is joyful shouting. |
A city is built up by the blessing of the upright, but it is torn down by the mouth of the wicked. | 11By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, But by the mouth of the wicked it is torn down. |
Whoever shows contempt for his neighbor lacks sense, but a man with understanding keeps silent. | 12He who despises his neighbor lacks sense, But a man of understanding keeps silent. |
A gossip goes around revealing a secret, but a trustworthy person keeps a confidence. | 13He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets, But he who is trustworthy conceals a matter. |
Without guidance, people fall, but with many counselors there is deliverance. | 14Where there is no guidance the people fall, But in abundance of counselors there is victory. |
If someone puts up security for a stranger, he will suffer for it, but the one who hates such agreements is protected. | 15He who is guarantor for a stranger will surely suffer for it, But he who hates being a guarantor is secure. |
A gracious woman gains honor, but violent men gain only riches. | 16A gracious woman attains honor, And ruthless men attain riches. |
A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel man brings disaster on himself. | 17The merciful man does himself good, But the cruel man does himself harm. |
The wicked man earns an empty wage, but the one who sows righteousness, a true reward. | 18The wicked earns deceptive wages, But he who sows righteousness gets a true reward. |
Genuine righteousness leads to life, but pursuing evil leads to death. | 19He who is steadfast in righteousness will attain to life, And he who pursues evil will bring about his own death. |
Those with twisted minds are detestable to the LORD, but those with blameless conduct are His delight. | 20The perverse in heart are an abomination to the LORD, But the blameless in their walk are His delight. |
Be assured that the wicked will not go unpunished, but the offspring of the righteous will escape. | 21Assuredly, the evil man will not go unpunished, But the descendants of the righteous will be delivered. |
A beautiful woman who rejects good sense is like a gold ring in a pig's snout. | 22As a ring of gold in a swine's snout So is a beautiful woman who lacks discretion. |
The desire of the righteous turns out well, but the hope of the wicked leads to wrath. | 23The desire of the righteous is only good, But the expectation of the wicked is wrath. |
One person gives freely, yet gains more; another withholds what is right, only to become poor. | 24There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more, And there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in want. |
A generous person will be enriched, and the one who gives a drink of water will receive water. | 25The generous man will be prosperous, And he who waters will himself be watered. |
People will curse anyone who hoards grain, but a blessing will come to the one who sells it. | 26He who withholds grain, the people will curse him, But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it. |
The one who searches for what is good finds favor, but if someone looks for trouble, it will come to him. | 27He who diligently seeks good seeks favor, But he who seeks evil, evil will come to him. |
Anyone trusting in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like foliage. | 28He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like the green leaf. |
The one who brings ruin on his household will inherit the wind, and a fool will be a slave to someone whose heart is wise. | 29He who troubles his own house will inherit wind, And the foolish will be servant to the wisehearted. |
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, but violence takes lives. | 30The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who is wise wins souls. |
If the righteous will be repaid on earth, how much more the wicked and sinful. | 31If the righteous will be rewarded in the earth, How much more the wicked and the sinner! |
