I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, and he will hear me. | 1For the director of music. For Jeduthun. Of Asaph. A psalm. I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me. |
In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord; in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying; my soul refuses to be comforted. | 2When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands, and I would not be comforted. |
When I remember God, I moan; when I meditate, my spirit faints. Selah | 3I remembered you, God, and I groaned; I meditated, and my spirit grew faint. |
You hold my eyelids open; I am so troubled that I cannot speak. | 4You kept my eyes from closing; I was too troubled to speak. |
I consider the days of old, the years long ago. | 5I thought about the former days, the years of long ago; |
I said, “Let me remember my song in the night; let me meditate in my heart.” Then my spirit made a diligent search: | 6I remembered my songs in the night. My heart meditated and my spirit asked: |
“Will the Lord spurn forever, and never again be favorable? | 7"Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again? |
Has his steadfast love forever ceased? Are his promises at an end for all time? | 8Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time? |
Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” Selah | 9Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?" |
Then I said, “I will appeal to this, to the years of the right hand of the Most High.” | 10Then I thought, "To this I will appeal: the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand. |
I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. | 11I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. |
I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds. | 12I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds." |
Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God? | 13Your ways, God, are holy. What god is as great as our God? |
You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your might among the peoples. | 14You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples. |
You with your arm redeemed your people, the children of Jacob and Joseph. Selah | 15With your mighty arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. |
When the waters saw you, O God, when the waters saw you, they were afraid; indeed, the deep trembled. | 16The waters saw you, God, the waters saw you and writhed; the very depths were convulsed. |
The clouds poured out water; the skies gave forth thunder; your arrows flashed on every side. | 17The clouds poured down water, the heavens resounded with thunder; your arrows flashed back and forth. |
The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind; your lightnings lighted up the world; the earth trembled and shook. | 18Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind, your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked. |
Your way was through the sea, your path through the great waters; yet your footprints were unseen. | 19Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen. |
You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. | 20You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. |
