| 1Give ear to my words, O LORD; consider my groaning. | 1For the music director, to be accompanied by wind instruments; a psalm of David. Listen to what I say, LORD! Carefully consider my complaint! |
| 2Give attention to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to you do I pray. | 2Pay attention to my cry for help, my king and my God, for I am praying to you! |
| 3O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch. | 3LORD, in the morning you will hear me; in the morning I will present my case to you and then wait expectantly for an answer. |
| 4For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not dwell with you. | 4Certainly you are not a God who approves of evil; evil people cannot dwell with you. |
| 5The boastful shall not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildoers. | 5Arrogant people cannot stand in your presence; you hate all who behave wickedly. |
| 6You destroy those who speak lies; the LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man. | 6You destroy liars; the LORD despises violent and deceitful people. |
| 7But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love, will enter your house. I will bow down toward your holy temple in the fear of you. | 7But as for me, because of your great faithfulness I will enter your house; I will bow down toward your holy temple as I worship you. |
| 8Lead me, O LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me. | 8LORD, lead me in your righteousness because of those who wait to ambush me, remove the obstacles in the way in which you are guiding me! |
| 9For there is no truth in their mouth; their inmost self is destruction; their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongue. | 9For they do not speak the truth; their stomachs are like the place of destruction, their throats like an open grave, their tongues like a steep slope leading into it. |
| 10Make them bear their guilt, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; because of the abundance of their transgressions cast them out, for they have rebelled against you. | 10Condemn them, O God! May their own schemes be their downfall! Drive them away because of their many acts of insurrection, for they have rebelled against you. |
| 11But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you. | 11But may all who take shelter in you be happy! May they continually shout for joy! Shelter them so that those who are loyal to you may rejoice! |
| 12For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield. | 12Certainly you reward the godly, LORD. Like a shield you protect them in your good favor. |
