| 2May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. | 2Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; |
| 3His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, | 3seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. |
| 4by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. | 4For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust. |
| 5For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, | 5Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, |

| 10Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. | 10Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; |

| 12Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. | 12Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you. |
| 13I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder, | 13I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder, |
| 14since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me. | 14knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. |
| 15And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things. | 15And I will also be diligent that at any time after my departure you will be able to call these things to mind. |
