English Standard Version | Christian Standard Bible |
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? | 1The LORD is my light and my salvation--whom should I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life--whom should I dread? |
When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall. | 2When evildoers came against me to devour my flesh, my foes and my enemies stumbled and fell. |
Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident. | 3Though an army deploys against me, my heart will not be afraid; though a war breaks out against me, I will still be confident. |
One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple. | 4I have asked one thing from the LORD; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the LORD and seeking him in his temple. |
For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock. | 5For he will conceal me in his shelter in the day of adversity; he will hide me under the cover of his tent; he will set me high on a rock. |
And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the LORD. | 6Then my head will be high above my enemies around me; I will offer sacrifices in his tent with shouts of joy. I will sing and make music to the LORD. |
Hear, O LORD, when I cry aloud; be gracious to me and answer me! | 7LORD, hear my voice when I call; be gracious to me and answer me. |
You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, LORD, do I seek.” | 8My heart says this about you: "Seek his face." LORD, I will seek your face. |
Hide not your face from me. Turn not your servant away in anger, O you who have been my help. Cast me not off; forsake me not, O God of my salvation! | 9Do not hide your face from me; do not turn your servant away in anger. You have been my helper; do not leave me or abandon me, God of my salvation. |
For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the LORD will take me in. | 10Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD cares for me. |
Teach me your way, O LORD, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies. | 11Because of my adversaries, show me your way, LORD, and lead me on a level path. |
Give me not up to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence. | 12Do not give me over to the will of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing violence. |
I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! | 13I am certain that I will see the LORD's goodness in the land of the living. |
Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD! | 14Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart be courageous. Wait for the LORD. |
