1And the Pharisees and Sadducees having come to Him, tempting (testing) Him asked Him to show (show upon) them a sign from out of heaven.
2And answering, He said to them, Evening having come, you say, Fair weather: for the heaven (sky) is red.
3And at morning (early, dawn), Today a storm; for the heaven, being gloomy (overcast), is red. For you know how to discern the appearance of the heaven, however the signs of the times, you are not able!
4An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign and a sign will not be given to it, except the sign of Jonah. And having left them he went away. 5And the disciples having come unto the other side, they forgot (overlooked) to take bread. 6And Jesus said to them, Watch and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees. 7And they dialogued among themselves, saying, Because we did not take bread. 8And having known this, Jesus said, Why do you dialogue among yourselves, O you of little faith, because you did not take bread? 9Do you not yet apprehend (understand) nor remember the five loaves for the five thousand and how many hand-baskets you received? 10Nor the seven loaves for the four thousand and how many baskets you received? 11How do you not apprehend that I did not speak to you concerning bread, rather to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees? 12Then they comprehended (put it together) that He did not say to beware of the leaven of bread, rather of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. 13And Jesus having come into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, He questioned His disciples, saying, Who do men say to be the Son of Man? 14And some said, Some John the Baptist; and others Elijah; and different ones Jeremiah or one of the prophets. 15He says to them, And who do you say Me to be? 16And answering, Simon Peter said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17And answering, Jesus said to him, Blessed are you Simon Barjona! Because flesh and blood did not reveal it to you, but My Father who is in the heavens. 18And I also say to you, That you are Peter (Petros), and I will build My church upon this rock (petra), and the gates of Hades will not prevail against (overpower, be strong/able against) it. 19I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of the heavens; and whatever you might bind upon the earth will be bound in the heavens; and whatever you might loose (release, unbind) upon the earth will be loosed in the heavens. 20Then He expressly commanded the disciples, so that they should not say to anyone that He is the Christ. 21From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go away unto Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and the chief priests and scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised. 22And having taken Him aside, Peter began censure Him, saying, Far be it from You, Lord; this will never be to You. 23And having turned He said to Peter, Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block (offence) to Me, because your perspectives are not of the things of God, but the things of men. 24Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone wants to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me. 25For whoever might want to save his life (soul) will lose it; however whoever might lose his life (soul) for My sake, will find it. 26For what will it benefit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul (life)? Or what will a man give as an exchange for his soul (life)? 27For the Son of Man is about to come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and then He will give back to each according to his practice (sustained activity/responsibility). 28Truly I say to you, There are some of those standing here who shall not taste of death until they have seen the Son of Man coming in His kingdom. |
