And after these things Jesus was walking in Galilee; for he did not want to walk in Judea because the Jews were seeking to kill Him.
Now the Jewish feast of Booths (Tabernacles, held in October, setting up of tents) was near.
His brothers therefore said to Him, Depart from here and go into Judea, so that Your disciples will see Your works that You are doing.
For no one does anything in secret and he himself seeks to be in boldness (that leaves a witness deserving to be remembered and taken seriously). If You do these things make Yourself apparent to the world.
For not even His brothers believed unto Him.
Jesus then says to them, My opportune time is not yet come, however your opportune time is always ready.
The world is not able to hate you; however it hates Me because I bear witness concerning it, that its works are evil.
I am not yet going up unto this feast because My opportune time has not yet been fulfilled (fully come).
And having said these things to them, He remained in Galilee. 10And when His brothers had gone up unto the feast, then He also went up, not openly (apparently), but as in secret. 11The Jews therefore were seeking Him at (in) the feast and said, Where is He? 12And there was much grumbling concerning Him in the crowds. Some said, His is good; however others said, No; rather He deceives the multitude. 13Yet no one spoke boldly (openly, with freedom of speech) concerning Him because of the fear of the Jews. 14And even now it being in the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and was teaching. 15The Jews then were marveling, saying, How does this One know the writings having not learned? 16Jesus then answered them and said, My teaching is not of Myself, but of the One having sent Me. 17If anyone wants to do His will, he will know the teaching, whether it is from God or I speak from Myself. 18The one speaking from himself seeks his own glory; however the One seeking the glory of the One having sent Him, He is true and there is no unrighteousness (injustice) in Him. 19Has not Moses given the law to you and no one from out of you does the law? Why do you seek to kill Me? 20The crowd answered, You have a demon; who seeks to kill You? 21Jesus answered and said to them, I did one work and you all marvel. 22Because of this, Moses has given you circumcision, (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a man. 23If a man receives circumcision on a Sabbath, so that the law of Moses might not be broken, you are angry with Me because I made a man wholly healthy on the Sabbath? 24Do not judge according to appearance but judge the righteous judgment. 25Some then of those of Jerusalem said, Is not this He whom they seek to kill? 26And Behold, He speaks boldly (openly, freely) and they say nothing to Him. Have those who rule truly recognized that this is the Christ? 27But this One, we know from where He is. And the Christ, whenever He might come, no one knows from where He is. 28Jesus then cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, You know Me and You know from where I am; and I have not come from Myself, but the One having sent Me is true, whom you do not know. 29I know Him because I am from (from close beside) Him and He sent Me. 30They were seeking then to take Him, and no one laid a hand upon Him, because His hour had not yet come. 31And many from out of the crowd believed unto Him, and said, The Christ, when He comes, will He not do more signs than this man has done? 32The Pharisees heard the crowd grumbling these things concerning Him and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers, so that they might take Him. 33Then Jesus said, Yet a little time I am with you, and I go to the One having sent Me. 34You will seek Me and will not find Me; and where I am you are not able to come. 35Then the Jews said to themselves, Where is He about to go that we will not find Him? Is He about to go unto the Dispersion (scattering of the Jews among other countries) among the Greeks and teach the Greeks? 36What is this word that He said, You will seek Me and will not find Me; and Where I am you are not able to come? 37And in the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink (pineto). 38The one believing unto Me, just as the Scripture has said, Rivers from out of his belly will flow of living water. 39Now this He said concerning the Spirit, whom those having believed unto Him were about to receive; for the Spirit was not yet, because Jesus was not yet glorified. 40From out of the people therefore, having heard these words said, This is truly the Prophet. 41Others said, This is the Christ. However others said, Does the Christ come from out of Galilee? 42Has not the Scripture said, that the Christ comes from out of the seed of David and from Bethlehem, the village (country town) where David was? 43A division therefore occurred in the crowd because of Him. 44And some of them wanted to take Him, but no one laid their hands upon Him. 45Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees and they said to them, Why did you not bring Him? 46The officers answered, Never has a man spoke like this, {as this Man speaks.} 47The Pharisees therefore answered them, Have you been also deceived? 48Has anyone from out of the rulers believed unto Him, or from out of the Pharisees? 49But this crowd not knowing the law are accursed. 50Nicodemus says to them, (one having come to Him, one formerly being from out of them), 51Does our law judge a man, except first it has heard from him and it is known what he does? 52They answered and said to him, Are you also from out of Galilee? Search and see, that no prophet arises from out of Galilee. 53And each went unto his home. |
